Nejm, also known as Deborrah Samantha ^[1]Nejm – Instagram, was born in 2000 (age 23 years; as of 2023) in Chennai. She studied at a school in Delhi. She pursued a degree in English Literature from Madras Christian College, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. ^[2]Nejm – Instagram While she was in the first year of her college, Nejm participated in the 2019 Times Fresh Face.

Career

Nejm started her career as a rapper and started doing rap shows at various places in Chennai like Cafe Society Tambaram. In 2019, she participated in a rap competition, where she sang her original rap titled ‘Change.’

In the same year, she collaborated with the Indian musician Deveshwaar on a single called I’m Trouble. She then began competing with other underground rappers in Chennai at Porkalam. She has performed at various events and live shows in Chennai. Some of her popular raps include Wachuwant and Fatal. Nejm has also worked as a model. She has been featured in the print shoots of various clothing brands like Mokshaa, Chennai.

In 2020, she performed on the finale stage of Bigg Boss 4 (Tamil). In 2023, she auditioned for the youth-based reality TV show MTV Roadies Karm Ya Kaand and got selected in Gautam Gulati‘s gang.

• In an interview, Nejm revealed that although initially, she didn’t like rapping, it gave her the power to express her inner feelings.

• Nejm once revealed that she was criticised for her dark skin and body scars in her school days. In an Instagram post while talking about it, she wrote,
  

  I never wore sleeveless growing up because of how insecure I was of my Keloid scar. Even while having my school uniforms stitched, I made sure to get them with full sleeves. I was so embarrassed at how hideous and big this scar is. When we lived in Delhi, we went to this private school. I was in 2nd std then, I had participated in a play and my costume revealed this scar. Oh man! Like already being a dark-skinned Tamil girl in a rich people private school wasn’t bad enough, when the kids who used to bully me saw the scar, it became a nightmare. I remember this one girl sitting near me and going ‘EW!.”

• In an Instagram post, she shared that she was molested by her maternal uncle when she was 5 years old. She also revealed that when she was 11 years old, her maternal grandfather had sexually abused her.
