Kuldeep Chahal is a 2009 batch IPS officer and is currently serving as SSP Mohali (SAS Nagar). Kuldeep is considered a fearless officer and is known for bringing down the crime rate as well as maintaining law and order wherever he is posted. He has lead several encounters under his supervision and has eliminated dreaded gangsters including Shera Khubban and Ankit Bhaddu, a member of Lawrence Bishnoi gang.

Kuldeep Singh Chahal was born in 1981 (age 39 years; as in 2020) in Ujhana village in Jind district of Haryana. He completed his Bachelor of Arts degree from Kurukshetra University. Thereafter, Kuldeep, along with his elder brother Suresh Kumar, moved to Panchkula where he pursued MA in History from Panjab University while simultaneously prepared for govt examinations. In 2005, Kuldeep was recruited as an ASI in the Chandigarh police; however, the small-town boy wasn’t satisfied with this achievement. His aim then shifted to make a place for himself in the Indian Police Service. After three years of intensive preparation, hard work, determination, and strategic approach, eventually, in his third attempt, Kuldeep Chahal finished 82nd in the civil services examination.

Kuldeep Singh Chahal comes from a family of farmers. His father, Sadhu Ram is a farmer, and his mother is a homemaker. His elder brother, Suresh Kumar is a lecturer at a government college in Panchkula.

Controversies

In 2018, the chairperson of the Punjab State Commission for Women accused the Mohali SSP Kuldeep Chahal of disrespecting and abusing her when she called him to inquire about the status of a sexual harassment case registered under his area. She submitted a written complaint against him to the then union minister Rajnath Singh, Punjab governor VP Singh Badnore, and CM Captain Amrinder Singh. ^[1]TOI

The Humanitarian Side of Chahal

Apart from working as an IPS officer, Kuldeep often engages himself in social activities.

Kuldeep, along with the people of his village, runs an NGO under the name, Prayas Seva Samiti. The NGO works with the objectives of flourishing the environment, maintaining the cleanliness in the surroundings, and promoting sports-related activities. Prayas Seva Samiti has planted 16000 trees in their village till 2019.
