Parents & Siblings

Krishan Bahadur Pathak’s parents passed away when he was very young. His mother, Tej Kumari Pathak, passed away on 14 March 2007 and his father, Tek Bahadur, who was a crane operator passed away on 15 July 2016. Krishan’s parents were immigrants from Nepal who moved to Punjab, India, in 1990.

Krishan Bahadur has two elder sisters and one of them is Sabitri Chhetri. He also has an elder brother named Chitra Pathak. All of Krishan’s siblings are settled in Nepal.

Wife 

Krishan Bahadur Pathak got married to his long-time girlfriend, Nutei Ralte, on 26 March 2023. Nutiei is also a hockey player from Mizoram.

Hockey Player

Krishan Bahadur Pathak’s hockey talent was recognised at the Rail Coach Factory at Kapurthala where he used to play initially. He was then selected as part of the Raily Coach Factory’s hockey team and after a few years, Krishan Bahadur was picked up by the Indian Oil Corporation’s men’s hockey team. When Krishan was about 16 years old, he was a regular student at the Surjit Singh Hockey Academy in Jalandhar and later he cleared the trials of the India men’s national under-19 field hockey team and became part of the team as a goalkeeper. After his selection, he represented India in the 2016 Men’s Hockey Junior World Cup which was held in India itself and the team defeated Belgium with the final score of 2-1.

In the same year, he also represented a Mumbai-based hockey team ‘Dabang Mumbai’ in the fourth season of the professional field hockey tournament ‘2016 Hockey India League’ (HIL).

In 2017, Krishan Bahadur was part of the Indian hockey team squad in the 27th edition of the men’s Australian Hockey League which was held in Perth, Australia.

In the same year, he participated in the Bombay Gold Cup in which he represented the Indian Oil Corporation’s hockey team in which the team won the tournament finals.

In 2018, Krishan Bahadur represented the Indian hockey team in the 2018 Four Nations Invitational Tournament which was held in New Zealand. In the same year, Krishan Bahadur was included in the Indian team squad that won the bronze medal in the finals of the 2018 Asian Games which was held in Jakarta. He was also part of the Indian squad for the 14th edition of the Hockey World Cup which was held in Bhubaneswar, India.

In 2022, he represented India in the men’s field hockey tournament at the 2022 Commonwealth Games which was held in Birmingham, England, in which the Indian hockey team won the silver medal.

In the following year, Krishna Bahadur represented the Indian hockey team at the 2023 Men’s Asian Champions Trophy and ended up winning the title.

In the same year, he played in the Asian Games 2023 which was held in Hangzhou, China in which the Indian team won the gold medal.

Tattoo

Krishan Bahadur Pathak has an armband tattoo on his left forearm which highlights his hockey jersey number ’12.’

Krishan also has a tattoo on his right forearm which depicts his parents with flowers and a Christian cross.

He has another tattoo on his right arm which says ‘Mom Dad’ with a lifeline.

Facts/Trivia

• His father passed away 2 days before Krishan was set to make his international tournament debut, which was a seven-match series against the English junior team. He decided to go forward with the tournament and didn’t even attend the last rites of his father just to represent his country on the international front. Six months after his father’s passing, Krishan Bahadur served as the Indian hockey team’s lead goalie in the 2016 Junior Hockey World Cup.

• Krishan belonged to a very poor family where his father was not able to make ends meet which is why Krishan started moving debris at construction sites in order to provide financial help to his family.

• Krishan Bahadur was never interested in sports; however, his father always wanted him to have a career in hockey and that’s how Krishan joined the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Academy in Jalandhar at the age of 12.

• After both his parents’ deaths, Krishan Bahadur was raised and brought up by his uncle Chander Bahadur Pathak who used to live in Kapurthala.

• When Krishan was about 14 years old and living in RCF Kapurthala, a hockey match between the Indian Railways and the Border Security Force was organized at the RCF. The Indian Railways team didn’t have a goalkeeper at that moment and that’s when Krishan was asked to play for their team as a goalkeeper.

• He considers the Indian hockey player and goalkeeper Parattu Raveendran Sreejesh his biggest inspiration in goalkeeping.
