Bhajan Kaur is an Indian archer known for securing a bronze medal in the women’s team recurve event at the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou.

Bhajan Kaur was born on Friday, 26 August 2004 (age 19 years; as of 2023) in Ellenabad, Sirsa, Haryana. Bhajan was born into a Jat family. She did her schooling at Nachiketan Public School, Ellenabad, Haryana. She is pursuing her graduation at Chandigarh University, Ajitgarh, Punjab. In eighth grade, a senior in her school left her bow behind, and the teacher suggested that Bhajan use it. Impressed by her shot, the teachers encouraged her, marking the beginning of her archery journey. In an interview, she mentioned that when she expressed her desire to learn archery to her parents, they were pleased but also concerned due to financial constraints. Despite this, her father took loans to purchase an archery kit worth Rs. 25,000. She used to practise shotput before changing her game to archery.

Archery

In 2019, she won a gold medal in the team event at the National Games. In 2020, she participated in the National Games in Maharashtra, earning a gold medal in the team event and a silver medal in the individual event. In 2020, she clinched a gold medal in the National Games in Jharkhand and secured another gold medal in the individual event. In 2022, at the National Championship in Alwar, she earned a gold medal in the team event, a silver medal in the mixed team event, and a gold medal in the individual event. In the Senior National Championship 2022 in Jammu, she secured the 3rd rank and won a gold medal in the individual event as part of the Haryana team. In 2022, she earned silver medals in the mixed team and individual events. In 2022, she secured two bronze medals at the National Games.

In 2022, she won gold in the sub-junior girl’s recurve categories at the 1st NTPC National Ranking Archery Tournament held at Gachibowli Stadium, Hyderabad. In 2022, she secured a gold and two silver medals at the Asia Cup in Iraq. In April 2023, she competed in the Archery World Cup in Antalya, Turkey, reaching the semi-finals. On 21 April 2023, she defeated the top-ranked Aljendra Valencia with a score of 6–5 in the quarterfinals. In June 2023, she ranked among the top 10 at the Archery World Cup Stage 3 in Medellin, Colombia. In July 2023, she participated in the Youth and Cadet World Championship in Limerick, securing a bronze medal. During the tournament, she beat Su Hsin-Yu of Chinese Taipei with a score of 7-1 in the U-21 women’s recurve individual section.

In 2023, she clinched a gold medal at the NTPC Senior National Archery Championship.

At the 2022 Asian Games, she, along with Ankita Bhakat and Simranjeet Kaur, secured a bronze medal in the Women’s team recurve event. They won the bronze-medal play-off against the Vietnam team with a score of 6-2.

  • In an interview, she talked about her love for the game and said,

    I tried shot-put for about a year but there was little success and then I was selected during a trial at the Asian Games. I’m in love with the sport now. The pressure situation brings out the best in me and I’m grateful to have seniors like Ankita and Simranjeet guiding me all the way.”
