Career
In May 2008, he began his career as a special correspondent/ cricket writer for the leading Indian national daily The Indian Express. At the beginning of his career, he would write about a variety of sports. His first article was on chess. However, within a year, Sundaresan started reporting on the Indian Cricket Team, which eventually became his specialization. He would travel extensively to cover cricket series throughout the world. He worked at The Indian Express for over 10.5 years, and then, he moved to Adelaide, Australia with his wife in December 2018. There, he assumed the role of Australian correspondent and senior writer for Cricbuzz. In 2019, he started umpiring with the South Australian Cricket Association. He also works as a cricket commentator for the Melbourne-based sports radio station SEN Radio.

In 2018, he penned a biography of the Indian cricket icon M.S. Dhoni titled The Dhoni Touch: Unravelling the Enigma that is Mahendra Singh Dhoni, which became a national bestseller in India.
In 2021, Sundaresan co-authored Suresh Raina’s autobiography Believe: What Life and Cricket Taught Me, also a national bestseller.
In 2023, Bharat Sundaresan co-authored the book The Miracle Makers — Indian Cricket’s Greatest Epic along with Gaurav Joshi.

- Bharat Sundaresan moved to Adelaide when his wife, Isha, decided to enrol at Flinders University in the city. He first visited Adelaide to report on the Indian cricket team during the 2014/15 Border-Gavaskar Series.
- In an interview, he revealed that he penned The Dhoni Touch (2018) sitting at The Grind, on The Parade, Norwood in South Australia.
- In 2013, Bharat Sundaresan bagged an award for Best Sports Feature at Red Ink Awards for his article titled ‘The one who dropped the ball’ on the cricketer Anil Gurav. In the article, Sundaresan narrated the tragic story of Gurav as he found himself entangled in the world of alcohol and crime. Sundaresan made a contrast between Gurav and Sachin Tendulkar’s careers though the two shared the cricket coach Ramakant Achrekar.

- In 2022, he made headlines for calling on Australian Cricket to end racism against people of colour. He published an article in The Age, an Australian daily newspaper, in which he shared that his credentials were still questioned by the security staff at venues despite being a renowned cricket writer. He also posted a tweet talking about the same and said,
To all you wonderful security personnel at cricket venues around Australia. This is my fifth summer here. At some point you have to stop jumping on me, questioning my credentials, talking down to me & asking each other if “we can trust him?”. Like it or not, I’m here to stay”
