Allison Holker

Allison Holker is an American dancer, choreographer, actress, and TV personality. She is known for appearing on the TV dance competition series So You Think You Can Dance in which she was a contestant in season 2 and one of the All-Stars in seasons 7–11 and 14.

Allison Holker was born on Saturday, February 6, 1988 (age 34 years; as of 2022), in Anoka County, Minnesota, US. Her zodiac sign is Aquarius. She spent her early childhood in Minnesota ice skating every winter in a homemade rink created by her father in the backyard of her house. While recalling her childhood in an interview, she said,

I learned very young how to ice skate. I even took a few figure skating classes. I played hockey a lot with my brothers in our backyard.”

After she moved to Utah when she was 9, Holker discovered dance, and skating was put on the shelf. There, she enrolled as a student at The Dance Club in Orem and began her dance training. By the age of 11, she had learned ballet, tap dance, jazz, contemporary dance, and hip-hop. Later, she toured with the dance convention NYC Dance Alliance. She attended Timpanogos High School in Orem, Utah. In 2004, she won the dance title in her first national competition, Co DANCE. At 16, she earned the national title of New York City Dance Alliance after which they hired her as an assistant.

Husband & Children

On December 11, 2013, Allison Holker got married to Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss at Nigel Lythgoe’s Villa San Juliette Vineyard and Winery in Paso Robles, California. Stephen ‘tWitch’ Boss was an American freestyle hip-hop dancer, choreographer, actor, television producer, and television personality, who gained popularity with the TV shows So You Think You Can Dance and The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Allison has two children, a daughter, Zaia Boss (born in 2019), and a son, Maddox Laurel Boss (born in 2016), from Stephen. Allison Holker has a daughter, Weslie Renae Fowler (born in 2008), with her previous partner whom Stephen Boss adopted after marriage. On December 13, 2022, Stephen Boss committed suicide in a Los Angeles hotel room.

Relationships/Affairs

Stephen Boss and Allison Holker dated each other for three years. The couple first met in 2010 at a party at the end of a season of So You Think You Can Dance. He proposed to her while they were filming choreography for a Microsoft commercial.

Career

She performed with the American band Earth, Wind & Fire at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City. She is trained in various dance styles. She took training from many dancers like Travis Wall, Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, Kenny Ortega, and Louis Van Amstel. She has been dabbling in choreography since she was a teenager. In an interview, she said,

I’ve been teaching in dance conventions since I was 18. That’s where I got a lot of my training because I traveled to many dance conventions when I was growing up. That’s also how I met Mia Michaels or Brian Friedman or Tyce. They gave me a lot of chances and it helped me with my future.”

She played the role of a cheerleader in the American musical TV film High School Musical (2006) and its sequel in 2007.

Later, she appeared in various commercials. She made it to the Top 8 on the Season 2 of So You Think You Can Dance; she also danced in the season’s nationwide tour.

She was a part of the off-broadway theatrical production Revolution, which was a tap show. Her work includes SYTYCD promotional videos, dance segments on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, and a piece for Dancing with the Stars. Thereafter, she gave a performance in the show Ballroom with a Twist, which was choreographed by the Dutch-American ballroom dance champion Louis Van Amstel. She also appeared in American Idol’s Clay Aiken in his PBS special Tried and True (2010). She was featured in the music video of Jar of Hearts (2010) by Christina Perri. Around September or October in 2011, Holker worked as one of American singer Demi Lovato’s backup dancers. She appeared in the series A Chance to Dance on the Ovation network. As a choreographer, she worked with the Canadian ice dancers Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje in 2012. She has worked with Brian Friedman as a backup dancer on The X Factor USA. On April 30, 2013, she collaboratively performed with her husband, tWitch, in Dancing with the Stars on the song Crystallize, which was performed live by Lindsey Stirling. She earned a Primetime Emmy Award Nomination for Outstanding Choreography (2013) with Derek Hough for routines: “Heart Cry” and “Stars.”

She appeared in Seasons 19, 20, 21, and 23 of the TV show Dancing with the Stars on ABC. In season 19, she partnered with Mean Girls actor Jonathan Bennett, but they were eliminated in Week 6, finishing in 9th place.

In Season 20, she partnered with R5 singer and actor Riker Lynch; they made it to the finals and finished in second place.

In 2015, she was nominated for Teen Choice Awards. She had a recurring role in the sports drama TV series Hit the Floor. In 2017, Allison and tWitch started hosting Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings, a documentary television series featuring couples and their Disney-themed weddings, airing on Disney’s Freeform network and the Disney+ streaming service.

She co-founded CLI Studios, an online platform featuring dance lessons from renowned choreographers. Later, tWitch and Holker started the YouTube channel OFFICIAL BOSS FAM and the Instagram account bossfamilyworkout,  which featured dance classes by them.

  • At the age of 11, she determined to pursue a career in dancing, watching her elder sister, Jessica Holker, who is also a dancer. At that time, Jessica had joined Mia Michael’s dance group called Mia Michaels Raw. Allison went to see the dress rehearsal of the group before they traveled overseas. That’s when she was awestruck by the athletic and powerful bodies of the female dancers.
