Vineet Raina is an Indian actor who is known for starring in the TV shows Maryada… of an Indian family (2007–2008), Har Ghar Kuch Kehta Hai (2007–2008), Maayka (2007–2008), Udaan (2014–2016), and Choti Sarrdaarni (2021–2022).

Vineet Raina was born on Friday, 30 August 1985 (age 38 years; as of 2023) in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir. His zodiac sign is Virgo.

Raina’s family was one of the many Kashmiri Pandit families who were uprooted from their homes in Kashmir in the early 90s. During childhood, he would amuse his parents by mimicking his relatives. In an interview, recalling the same he said,

As a kid, I had a habit of mimicking everyone who came to my house. I’d observe guests and other relatives carefully. Then, after they left, I would mimic them before my parents and they would laugh at it.”

Later, he started imitating Sanjeev Kumar and Nana Patekar. He studied at Sri Pratap Memorial Rajput College of Commerce in Jammu. In college, he was an active member of the NCC. He completed his 3-year Advanced Diploma in Computer Software, Hardware, Telecommunications and Network Engineering in 2003. On 10 May 2009, Vineet Raina got married to TV actress Tanushree Kaushal. She is older than Vineet.

Raina and Kaushal got divorced in 2011, citing that “they weren’t compatible”. Talking about their divorce in an interview, Kaushal said,

Only after the marriage did we realise that we were poles apart. He’s a good person but I think we both made the big mistake of getting married. We will soon file for divorce. ‘Marriages are made in heaven’ is bullsh*t and one should never go for a love marriage.”

On 27 November 2023, he got married to Apeksha Raina, a nurse.

Career

After completing his formal education, he worked for Maruti Udyog in Kashmir for a while. Simultaneously, he worked in a few serials for Doordarshan Kashmir. Thereafter, he moved to Mumbai, where he applied for jobs in companies like Wipro, ICICI etc before making his TV debut with Mulk (2003).

Television

In 2003, Vineet Raina made his acting debut with the TV drama series Mulk on Zee TV in which he played a supporting role. The show revolved around the partition of India and depicted how it impacted the lives and relationships of three friends hailing from Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh backgrounds in Sheikhupura, near Lahore in the Punjab Province.

He played the role of Dhruv (Guruji’s Grandson) in the Hindi TV show Tum Bin Jaaoon Kahaan (2004-2005) on Zee TV. From 2005 to 2007, he played the negative role of Anuraag (Titli Mami’s son) in the TV show Sindoor Tere Naam Ka. Thereafter, he played the role of Yashvardhan “Yash” Jaisingh in Sony’s Vaidehi (2006) and Nand Kishor in Sanyasi (2006). He came into the limelight with TV Asia’s Maryada… of an Indian family (2007-2009) in which he played Krishna “Krish” Singh.

In 2007, he became popular with the serial Maayka – Saath Zindagi Bhar Ka on Zee TV in which he played the role of Veer Khurana, Durga and Mr. Khurana’s elder son. In the same year, he won the Zee Rishtey Award in the category of Favorite Jija Sala/Sali Rishta for his role in Maayka: Saath Zindagi Bhar Ka, shared with actress Neha Bamb.

In 2011, he hosted the TV show Cinema Khel Khel Mein on Zee Cinema, a family game show in which the participants played a Bollywood trivia quiz. From 2014 to 2016, he starred in the soap opera Udaan as Arjun Khanna, Mahesh’s brother, on Colors TV. Vineet Raina made his film debut with Janani (2006) in which he played the role of Rahul Awasthi. It was a flop show at the box office.

After Janani, he started working as a TV actor and did not work in films for a long time. Talking about the same in an interview, he said,

I did Janani, because I desperately needed the money to survive in Mumbai. I received a couple more film offers but I didn’t take them on. Films take at least six months to get going. I didn’t have that much steam to keep me going. I opted for TV instead.”

In 2019, he starred in the biographical period drama film The Sholay Girl as Shakoor. It streamed on the online platform ZEE5.

Web Series

Raina played the role of Abhay in the web series Kasak (2020), which earned him critical acclamation. Based on the true story, the show was released on the OTT platform ULLU. He was nominated in the category of Best Actor at Filmfare OTT Awards for his role in Kasak (2020).

Others

In 2017, he joined hands with life coach, actor, and producer Raman Handa to work as a Creative Director at Ramman’s production company Natak Ent. Together, they produced a short film, Karma. In 2023, he appeared in the music video of the song Tere Pyar Me by Krishna Beuraa.

  • Vineet was linked with his co-actor from Ishq Mein Marjaawan Alisha Panwar, but he confirmed that they were just friends. Talking about the same in an interview, he said,

    Alisha is not just my co-actor, but also my neighbour. She stays right above my floor and we are great friends. I don’t think we are looking at being anything more than that.”
