Career

In 1997, she debuted in the Kannada film, ‘Nagamandala’ and won Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Kannada for her character Rani in this film. She has acted in more than 25 Kannada films including ‘Arunodaya’ (1999), ‘Naxalite’ (2000), ‘Mahatma’ (2000), ‘Jogula’ (2003), ‘Nannalla’ (2011), and ‘Fighter’ (2018).

Her debut Tamil film is ‘Poonthottam’ (1998). She has acted in many Tamil films, like ‘Friends’ (2001), ‘Yes Madam’ (2003), ‘Boss Engira Bhaskaran’ (2010), and ‘Meesaya Murukku’ (2017).

In 2000, she acted in the Malayalam film, ‘Devadoothan.’ She has appeared in the Telugu films, ‘Hanuman Junction’ (2001) and ‘Prudhvi Narayana’ (2002).

She has also appeared in the Tamil TV serials like ‘Vasantham’ (2007), ‘Chellamay’ (2009), ‘Mundhanai Mudichu’ (2011), and ‘Nandini’ (2017). She was roped in for Kannada serial, ‘Bangarada Bete’ in 2008 and Telugu serial, ‘Suryavamsham’ in 2015.

Suicide

Reportedly, on 22 August 2006, she attempted suicide as she was harassed and stalked by the assistant director, Ramesh. ^[4]News Bricks

On 27 July 2020, she again attempted suicide after posting a video on her Facebook account. In her video, she revealed the reason behind her suicide. She said that she was in stress and was constantly being bullied by the Indian politician, Seeman and his party members. She further said,

This is my last video. I have been under extreme stress in the last four months because of Seeman and his party men. I tried my best to survive for my mother and my sister. I have been humiliated by Hari Nadar in the media. I have consumed BP tablets. In some time my BP will be low and I will be dead.”

Soon after her video, she was rushed to a private hospital and her situation was critical at the time she was admitted in the hospital. ^[5]News Bricks
