Film & Television
Sonali Phogat made her television debut in 2006 by appearing as an anchor in a Haryanvi show on Doordarshan. In 2019, she featured in the web series “The Story of Badmashgarh.” Sonali has also featured in the music video of the Haryanvi song “Bandook Aali Jaatni” (2019).
She played the role of the wife of Nawab Shah in the TV serial “Amma: Ek Maa Jo Laakhon Ke Liye Bani Amma” (2020). In 2020, she entered the game reality show “Bigg Boss 14” as a wild card contestant.
Political Career
Sonali Phogat joined the political party Bharatiya Janata Party in 2008. Subsequently, she was made the National Vice President of BJP Mahila Morcha.
In 2019, she contested the 2019 Harayana Assembly Elections from the Adampur Constituency. However, she lost the elections to Congress leader Kuldeep Bishnoi by a margin of 29,471 votes. Phogat also worked for the BJP in the tribal areas of Jharkhand and Madhya Pradesh. Later, she was made in charge of BJP’s scheduled Tribe wing in Haryana, New Delhi, and Chandigarh.
Controversies
- Sonali was highly criticized for her speech during a rally in the Balsamand Village in Hisar. On 8 October 2019, Phogat asked people to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ and said that those who were not chanting must be from Pakistan. However, she later apologized for making such a statement.
- On 5 June 2020, a video went viral in which Sonali was seen slapping an official Sultan Singh with her slippers after he made some inappropriate comments. The incident took place when Sonali went to Sultan Singh, a member of the Agricultural Produce Market Committee, with a list of farmer’s complaints. [4]NDTV

Death
On 22 August 2022, Sonali Phogat, reportedly, died of a heart attack in Goa. [5]The Indian Express On 25 August 2022, her autopsy report was released that confirmed multiple injuries on her body following which Sonali’s family claimed that Sonali was raped by her two assistants before they poisoned and murdered her.
