Shahbaz Ahmed

Shahbaz Ahmed is a professional Indian cricketer who plays for Bengal in domestic cricket matches. He represented Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020.

Wiki/Biography

Shahbaz Ahmed was born on Monday, 12 December 1994 (age 28 years; as of 2022) in Mewat District in Haryana. He grew up playing cricket in Mewat. Owing to fewer opportunities in Mewat (the most backward district in Haryana as per a NITI Aayog report of 2018), he went to Palwal to pursue a professional career in cricket. He played several cricket matches for Gurgaon (Gurugram) district but could not get a place in the Haryana Cricket team. In 2015, he shifted to Bengal, seeking better cricketing opportunities.

Career

Domestic & League

Shahbaz played for Taman Memorial Club in Bengal for a few years before breaking into Bengal Ranji Trophy in 2018. On 14 December 2018, Shahbaz Ahmed made his first-class cricket debut representing Bengal in a Ranji Trophy match against Hyderabad, at Hyderabad cricket ground. He won several crucial matches for Bangalore by his performances.

He witnessed a rapid rise in his career after making a debut in domestic cricket. The next year, 2019, he was selected to play for India A in Deodhar Trophy 2019.

Owing to his noted performances in domestic cricket matches, Royal Challengers Bangalore bought him for 20 lakh INR in the auction for the IPL 2020.

On 9 October 2022, he made his ODI debut against South Africa at JSCA International Stadium Complex.

T20I

Shahbaz made his T20I debut on 6 October 2023 against Bangladesh in Hangzhou during the 2022 Asian Games and took 1 wicket for 13 runs.
