Soppadhandi Venugopal Yashasri [1]TheWeeklySports.com was born on Thursday, 4 September 2003 (age 19 years; as of 2022) in Hyderabad. Her zodiac sign is Virgo. She completed her schooling at Indus International School, Hyderabad. Before choosing cricket as her game, she used to play different sports including Coco, swimming, and basketball. She developed an interest in cricket when she saw her friend Pooja Vanka hitting the ball during an inter-school game. She discovered her bowling skills in 2016 when she was asked to bowl for the school cricket team because of her tall height when the team was falling short of players. Growing up, she would take notice of the cricketing techniques of the players while watching them on TV. Later, she started her training at Bhavan’s Cricket Academy and Iqbal Cricket Academy in Hyderabad. In an interview, she said that when she started playing, many people told her parents that there was no future for girls in cricket, but her parents never stopped supporting her. According to her, she was not interested in studies and only went to school to give exams.

Career

She represents Hyderabad in domestic cricket. She was named to the Hyderabad Squad for the Women’s Senior One Day Trophy 2021-22.

She was named to the national U19 team for India Women Under-19s tour of South Africa 2022/23 in which she took four wickets in two T20s. At first, she was not chosen for the Indian squad for the ICC U19 Women’s T20 World Cup. Before the tournament, Mumbai’s Hurley Gala suffered a laceration to her right thumb which required stitches, after which Yashasri was added to the squad as the replacement player; She played only one match in the tournament. India beat England by 7 wickets in the final to become the inaugural champions of the tournament.

Women’s Premier League (WPL)

In 2023, she was picked by UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League auction for Rs. 10 Lakh. In an interview, she talked about her selection and said,

I saw the auctions for some time and went for my gym session. I was not expecting to get picked, so I was not nervous about the auctions. But when I got the news, I felt great. Since I was in the gym, I could not express my feeling in front of everyone but felt great inside.”
