Rumi Khan made his modeling debut with the designer Rashmi Virmani. After that, Rumi walked the ramp for many other designers.
Theatre
After establishing his career as a model, Rumi wanted to pursue acting, so he joined Delhi Music Theatre, where he worked under Ivan Pulinkala.
Television
After Theatre, Rumi shifted to Mumbai to explore more opportunities and made his television debut as a villain in the StarPlus show Veera (2012). Rumi has acted in many TV serials including Suryaputra Karn (2015) and Ali Baba (2023).

Tunisha Sharma suicide row
Rumi Khan came back to TV after 5 years in the role of villain in Ali Baba: Dastaan-e-Kabul, but shortly after starting the shoot of the show, Rumi quit the show in January 2023, and it happened just after the demise of the lead actress of the show, Tunisha Sharma, who hanged herself in the makeup room of the set of the show. This led everyone to speculate if there was a connection between the two events. Rumi Khan later clarified why he was absent from the shoot of the show and said,
Before taking up the show, I had signed two movies for which I was required to travel outside for shoots. Since my character was pivotal, I was expected to allot a lot of days to it. As a result, it became difficult to manage my dates and balance all projects. So, after discussing with the makers, officially quit the show a few days ago. The producers have been quite understanding and would love to work with them again. My decision to quit the show has nothing to do with Tunisha’s tragic demise. She was like a kid to me. Before Ali Baba, I worked with her in Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat and Sher-e-Punjab: Maharaja Ranjit Singh, in which she essayed my daughter. She would often tell me that I resembled her father, who she lost a few years ago. So, it instantly led to a beautiful deep bond between us.”
