Career
Rohit Bal started his career as a fashion designer in 1986 with his elder brother Rajeev Bal in a company known as Orchid Oversea Pvt. Ltd. He started his label in 1990. He created clothes for both men and women. Bal used lavish fabrics like velvet and brocade, and his designs were inspired by Indian culture and dignity.
He was offered to work with the ‘Khadi Gram Udyog’ in Panchkula. Rohit mostly used lotus and peacock motifs in his designs. He had outlets in cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Ahmedabad, Kolkata, Chennai, and the Middle East and Europe.
After establishing himself as a successful entrepreneur, Rohit started expanding his business in India and abroad. Rohit made his name by designing costumes for the popular Indian game show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

Rohit Bal showcased his design work in many fashion shows all across the globe. He conducted shows in London, Paris, New York, Singapore, Moscow, Jakarta, Colombo, Sao, Paulo, Munich, Geneva, and many cities in India.
Controversies
Rohit Bal was arrested in New Delhi
In September 2017, Rohit Bal was arrested by the Delhi police in Defence Colony. Reportedly, Rohit’s neighbour Iqbal Singh, filed a complaint against him and his friends claiming the four men forcefully entered his house and “under the influence of alcohol, threatened him and created a ruckus.” The case was registered and Rohit Bal was released the next day on bail. Later, Bal’s assistant made a statement regarding the issue, and said,
It was a fight over car parking. It is over now and he (Bal) is taking rest.”

- In 2006, Rohit Bal won the ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Indian Fashion Awards.
- He won the ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Kingfisher Fashion Achievement Awards in 2001.
- In 2020, he was recognized as “Iconic Fashion Designer of the country” by the jury of the Rajnigandha Pearls India Fashion Awards.
- In 2013, he won the Most Stylish Men’s Evening Wear Award at the PETA-Approved Vegan Fashion Awards.
- Rohit was honoured as the Lakme Grand Finale Designer in 2012.
Death
He passed away due to cardiac arrest on 1 November 2024 in New Delhi at the age of 63.
