Career

RK Mathur is a 1977 batch IAS officer from the Tripura cadre. His first posting was as the District Manager and Collector of West Tripura. He has held many important positions in the Tripura Government such as the CEO of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council, Commissioner of Panchayats, Revenue, Resident of Tripura, Principal Secretary of Tripura, Chief Secretay of Tripura, and many more.

On 1 October 2012, he was appointed as the Union Defence Production Secretary by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) for a fixed tenure of two years. On 18 December 2015, Mathur was appointed as the Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of India. He served as the CIC till his retirement on 24 November 2018.

On 25 October 2019, Mathur was nominated by the President of India Ram Nath Kovind to be the first Lieutenant Governor of the newly formed Union Territory of Ladakh. On 31 October 2019, he was sworn-in as the first Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh. He was sworn-in on the same day as GC Murmu took oath as the first Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.
