Ramesh Babu was an Indian film producer and former actor. He was the eldest brother of the famous South Indian actor Mahesh Babu. Ramesh died of liver-related ailments on 8 January 2022.

His father, Ghattamaneni Siva Rama Krishna, is a former actor, director, and producer. His motherâs name is Indira Devi. His stepmother, Vijaya Nirmala, was an actor, who died in 2019.
His younger brother, Mahesh Babu, is an actor who is married to the Indian actress Namrata Shirodkar. He had three younger sisters Manjula Ghattamaneni (actor and producer), Padmavathi, and Priyadarshini. His step-brother, Naresh Babu (younger), is an actor too.

He was married to Mrudula. He had two children, a son named Jaya Krishna Ghattamaneni, and a daughter named Bharathi Ghattamaneni.
Career
As a Child Actor
In 1974, he debuted as a child actor with the Telugu film âAlluri Seetarama Teluguâ in which he played the role of young Alluri Seetaramaraju.
He then acted in the Telugu films âDongalaku Dongaâ (1977), âManushulu Chesina Dongaluâ (1977), and âAnnadammula Savalâ (1978). At the age of 14, Ramesh, along with his younger brother Mahesh, appeared in the Telugu film âNeeda.â
As a Lead Actor
After taking a break from acting, he played the lead role of Samraat in the Telugu film âSamraatâ (1987).
He then acted in various Telugu films like âBazaar Rowdyâ (1988), âMugguru Kodukuluâ (1988), âKrishna Gari Abbayiâ (1989), and âKaliyuga Abhimanyuduâ (1990). After appearing in the Telugu film âEncounterâ in 1997, he quit acting and ventured into film production.
As a Producer
Ramesh Babu worked as an executive producer in the Hindi film âSooryavanshamâ (1999). Later, he started a film production company âKrishna Productions Private Limitedâ in Hyderabad, Telangana, after his fatherâs name. Some of the Telugu films produced by Ramesh Babu are âArjunâ (2004), âAthidhiâ (2007), âDookuduâ (2011), and âAagaduâ (2014).
Death
On 8 January 2022, he took his last breath at AIG Hospital, Gachibowli, Hyderabad. He was suffering from prolonged liver-related ailments. Ramesh Babuâs film production company âGMB Entertainmentâ confirmed the news of his demise through Twitter. The tweet reads,
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Ghattamaneni Ramesh Babu garu. He will continue to live in our hearts forever. In light of the current circumstances, we request all our well-wishers to adhere to the Covid-19 norms and avoid gathering at the cremation venue.â
Various South Indian celebrities shared their grief on his demise. The veteran South Indian actor Chiranjeevi tweeted,
My heartfelt condolences to Shri Krishna garu, @urstrulyMahesh and all the family members. May the Almighty give strength to the family to cope with the tragic loss.â
Actor Sai Dharam Tej tweeted,
Saddened to know about the untimely passing on of Shri. #GhattamaneniRameshBabu garu.â
