Nelson Dilipkumar (popularly known as Nelson) was born on Thursday, 21 June 1984 (age 39 years; as of 2023) in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. His zodiac sign is Cancer. After completing his schooling, he decided to pursue graduation in medicine or engineering; however, his father put up a condition that he would have to do engineering at a good college or study visual communication. Since he had scored only 80% marks in his 12th standard examination, he decided to pursue graduation in visual communication at The New College, Chennai. After completing his graduation, he pursued a career in the Tamil entertainment industry.

Career

Television

He started his career as an assistant screenplay writer for Vijay TV (later renamed Star Vijay). He later worked as Program Director for many shows on Vijay TV.

Film

He made his debut as a film director and writer in 2018 with the Tamil film Kolamaavu Kokila featuring Nayanthara in the lead role. He got the film with the help of his friend and composer, Anirudh Ravichander. He later wrote and directed many hit Tamil films including Doctor in 2021 which featured Sivakarthikeyan and Priyanka Arul Mohan, Beast in 2022 which featured Vijay and Pooja Hegde, and Jailer in 2023 which featured Rajinikanth and Suniel Shetty. In May 2023, there were speculations that after Jailer, he would make a film with Dhanush in the lead role.
