Naveen Shankar was born on Wednesday, 25 May 1988 (age 35 years; as of 2023) in Ilkal, Bagalkot, Karnataka. His zodiac sign is Gemini. He did his schooling at a school in Illakal. He grew up listening to stories of legends and watching Kannada cinemas on DD channels which led him to develop an interest in acting. While talking about it in an interview, Shankar said,

My teachers introduced me to various subjects that caught my attention for storytelling, which left a lasting impression on me. Reading recommended books and watching inspiring films and the dialogues delivered by various actors motivated me.”

After completing his schooling, he enrolled himself into an engineering course. However, while he was in the first year of his college, he quit the course to pursue theatre. While in college, Naveen started a Kannada theatre group. ^[1]The New Indian Express

Film Journalist & Anchor

Naveen Shankar started his career as a film journalist for a local news channel in 2009. He then began working as an anchor at the U2 Music channel.

Theatre Artist

While Shankar was working as an anchor, he simultaneously started acting in theatre. He soon joined various theatre production houses and worked in more than 45 plays and 200 street plays for social awareness. He has been associated with the Rajamarg Art, Culture, and Drama Academy since 2010.

Naveen Shankar made his acting debut in 2018 with the Kannada-language cybercrime thriller film Gultoo in which he played the role of Alok.

A year later, he bagged the role of an MMA boxer named Aadhi in the crime drama film Dharani Mandala Madhyadolage. The film was released in November 2022. In 2023, he appeared in three Kannada films Hondisi Bareyiri as Ranjit, Gurudev Hoysala as Bali, and Kshetrapati as Basavaraj Hadimani. Besides films, he has also acted in a few TV serials and short films.

Naveen Shankar loves travelling and reading in his leisure time.

He is a huge fan of the Indian actor and screenwriter Shankar Nag. In an interview, he revealed that he added Shankar to his name as a tribute to Shankar Nag. He said,

I added ‘Shankar’ to my name not as my father’s name, but as a tribute to the personality of Shankar Nag. It’s my way of honouring Shankar Nag Sir. He’s a huge inspiration. I even spoke to the seniors who worked with him and learned about their experiences. Having my name alongside Shankar’s ignites my motivation. His remarkable persona and achievements in a short time pushes me. That’s why I added Shankar to my name.”

Naveen entered into the Kannada film industry through the director Janardhan Chikkanna, who was Naveen’s college batchmate.
