Nagavara Ramarao Narayana Murthy was born into a Brahmin Hindu Family. [2]Wikipedia His father N. Rama Rao, was a high school teacher. His mother’s name is Padavathamma Murthy. He has seven siblings. Murthy met Sudha Murthy (then Sudha Kulkarni) through a common friend, Prasanna (key person of Wipro) in Pune. He invited Sudha on a dinner along with her friends. They started hanging out together for movies, restaurants, and parties. Soon, they became good friends and one day Murthy proposed her for marriage, he said,

I want to tell you something. I am 5’4″ tall. I come from a lower-middle-class family. I can never become rich. You are beautiful, bright, intelligent and you can get anyone you want. But will you marry me?”

Sudha liked his honesty, but she wanted her parent’s approval first. She arranged Murthy’s meeting with her parents. Murthy was stuck in traffic and could not reach on time for the meeting which made Sudha’s father very angry. After 2 hours of the decided time of the meeting, Murthy booked a taxi and reached at Sudha’s place wearing a bright red shirt. Sudha’s father asked him about his goals, Murthy said he wanted to become a politician and open an orphanage. Sudha’s father was unimpressed by his answer and said,

I don’t want my daughter to marry somebody who wants to become a communist and then open an orphanage when he himself didn’t have money to support his family.”

After almost three years, Murthy got a job as a general manager. Sudha’s father finally accepted Murthy’s proposal of marrying her.
