Mehjabeen Shaikh, reportedly from the infamous Bhendi Bazaar area of Mumbai, is said to have caught the attention of Dawood Ibrahim when he was invited to dinner by his friend Mumtaz Khan in the 1990s. During the dinner, Dawood was drawn to Mehjabeen’s beauty, who was Mumtaz’s sister-in-law. Despite initial objections from Mehjabeen’s father, he eventually agreed to their marriage after learning about Dawood’s father’s respectable background as a policeman.

“Mehjabeen’s Influence and India Visit”

According to a media interview with one of her relatives, Mehjabeen Shaikh was a caring lady who always stayed in touch with all of Dawood Ibrahim’s relatives. Dawood often called Mehjabeen on festivals over WhatsApp, according to the relative. In a media interview, Haseena Parkar, Dawood’s sister once shared that Mehjabeen Shaikh was the driving force behind her family and arranged Mahrukh’s marriage to Junaid. She discussed the idea with Miandad’s wife, her close friend. Parkar mentioned that Mehjabeen was the only person Dawood was scared of. He would host parties in her absence, but everything would be cleaned up quickly if she came back unexpectedly, especially removing any signs of young women she wouldn’t approve of.

In 2016, Zubeena met her father, Yusuf Kashmiri, and uncle, Salim Kashmiri, when she travelled to Mumbai, the city of her birth. Reportedly, she also went to an educational institution run by the government while on her tour. In the following year, Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala said in a video that the Modi government did not take any action when she was in India. Surjewala made his remarks the day after Iqbal Ibrahim Kaskar, the brother of Dawood Ibrahim who was detained, told Indian authorities that Mehjabeen Shaikh, Dawood’s wife, had travelled to Mumbai in 2016 to see her uncle Salim Kashmiri, and she left for Pakistan secretly.
