Career

Mahesh Gaikwad is a former corporator and chief of the Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena faction in Ulhasnagar, Mumbai. Reportedly, Mahesh Gaikwad was preparing to contest in the 2024 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Elections from the Kalyan East constituency.

In February 2022, he was appointed as the Chairman of the Srimalangad Cricket Association by Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde during Chairman Cup-2022 which was held at Chinchavali Mhatre Pada in Shri Malanggad.

Ganpat Gaikwad and Mahesh Gaikwad Feud

On 2 February 2024, Ganpat Gaikwad shot 6 bullets into Mahesh Gaikwad at the Hill Line Police Station’s senior inspector’s cabin. The incident occurred because of an ongoing land dispute between Ganpat Gaikwad and the Jadhav family. According to Mahesh Gaikwad’s supporter, Mahesh was present at the police station to solve the dispute between both parties; however, Ganpat shot him as he considered Mahesh to be a political rival.

According to Ganpat, he shot Mahesh to protect his son from the police and did not regret his actions. The feud between Ganpat Gaikwad and Mahesh Gaikwad is long-standing. In August 2023, they clashed over the delayed development project in Kalyan (East). The two leaders got into a heated argument after calling for an open debate about who was behind the development work’s halt at the KDMC ward office in Kalyan. Controversies

FIR registered for extortion

In 2019, an FIR was registered against Mahesh Gaikwad by Kolsewadi police in Kalyan for allegedly assaulting a private contractor who was installing cables for a private telecom company and attempting to extort Rs 1 lakh from him. Later, Mahesh refuted all the allegations and claimed that Ganpat Gaikwad put political pressure on the police to register the FIR against him. ^[2]The Indian Express However, Ganpat Gaikwad denied the accusations against him, claiming that Mahesh Gaikwad was trying to extract money from the private contractor and had multiple criminal charges against him in addition to halting the cable installation work.
