Mahant Raju Das earned a Bachelor of Arts, a Master of Arts, and an LLB degree from K.S. Saket P.G. College, Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. While he was a student, he was associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (RSS student wing).

Career

While growing up, he became part of the Bajrang Dal. Thereafter, he joined BJP’s student wing ABVP following which he contested for Awadh University’s Saket Mahavidyalaya student union elections. In the early 2000s, he became involved in politics and attended every community initiative to which he was invited. Raju Das arrived in Ayodhya at a very young age, practiced penance, and became a disciple of Sant Ram Das. Raju Das was named as one of the BJP’s 12 likely mayoral candidates in Ayodhya ahead of the 2017 municipal elections in Uttar Pradesh.

Ultimatum to Swara Bhaskar and References to Rakhi Sawant’s Influence

In February 2023, Mahant Raju Das gave an ultimatum to the Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar for marrying a Muslim. Raju Das said in an interview that if Swara Bhasker was an empowered woman, she should not have married in the first place. He further added that if Swara wanted to spend the night with thousands of guys, she should be pleased with her marriage. According to him, Swara Bhaskar married in that community that marries their sisters. Swara Bhaskar was given an ultimatum by Mahant Raju Das, who stated that she had been following Rakhi Sawant‘s footprints. ^[1]Hindustan Times

Fiery Clash Erupts Between Mahant Raju Das and SP Leader Swami Prasad Maurya in Lucknow: A Tale of Disparaging Remarks and Threats

In February 2023, Mahant Raju Das and SP leader Swami Prasad Maurya were attending a news conference in Lucknow hosted by a TV channel when they got into a heated disagreement that turned physical in a five-star hotel’s lobby. Security guards rushed in to separate the two. Das later announced a reward for Maurya’s head after the latter made some disparaging remarks regarding Ramcharitmanas. The Mahant then claimed that he was attacked by followers of the SP leader and stated that he would file a complaint against Maurya. The following month, Mahant Raju Das made an offensive statement about Maurya, during an interview, claiming that he would thrash him a thousand times. He further stated,

Maurya’s mentality is bad, which is now being rectified’. Right now I have been beaten once, if I will be beaten a thousand times then everything will be fine. Whoever has opposed Ram and Ramcharitmanas, has been thrashed once and Hindus will thrash him a thousand times with shoes, stones, ink, bricks and sticks.”

Controversy Erupts as Mahant Raju Das Warns Filmmaker over ‘Kaali’ Documentary’s Poster in Ayodhya

Following the unveiling of Leena Manimekalai’s documentary ‘Kaali’s poster, Mahant Raju Das from Hanumangarhi temple issued a direct warning to the filmmaker, drawing parallels to a previous incident in Jaipur. The presence of a cigarette and an LGBT flag in the hands of Mata Kaali depicted in the film’s poster has stirred strong disapproval among the saints and residents of Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh. He said,

Do you want your head to be separated from the body, what is this desire? Now you have The audacity you have done is forgivable, you can even get an apology, but if this film is released, we will create a situation that you will not be able to handle. There is a filmmaker Leena, whose film made fun of Sanatan Dharma culture and our Hindu deities are very condemnable. Because of this, I am the Home Minister of the country. I demand from them that the strictest action should be taken against them and this picture should be banned, in the trailer which they have shown, Shakti Swaroopa is shown smoking a cigarette in the mouth of mother Kali. If Sharma had said it right, then the whole country caught fire.There was an earthquake in the whole world and you would make fun of SaZnatan Dharma culture? Do you want your head to be separated from the body..! What is this desire?”

Later in an interview, Raju Das said,

There is tremendous anger among sages and lovers of Sanatan Dharma, so I demand the Home Minister to ban such a film and take the strictest action against them.”

Facts/Trivia

Das’s parents left him when he was four and a half years old at Ayodhya’s Hanumangarhi temple.

Raju Das is Ujjainiya patti’s mahant.

In 2022, Raju Das announced that he would give a cash reward of Rs. 11 lakhs to whoever would kill Shahrukh Hussain, the man who killed a 12th-standard girl named Ankita in Jhumka, Jharkhand. ^[3]Aaj Tak
