Controversies

  • In 2021, Dispatch reported that Lee Min-ho and Yeonwoo were dating after which their agencies denied the rumor, saying that they were only acquaintances and there were other friends with them at the time of gathering. This led to Lee being accused of violating social distancing rules as social gatherings of more than two people was banned after 6 pm in South Korea. Min-ho’s agency later clarified that the gathering was held on July 1 when the restriction was only for gatherings of five or more than five; restrictions on gatherings of more than two people were stated on July 12. • In November 2020, South Korean media reported that a well-known actor was being investigated by National Tax Service for evading a tax amounting to around 1 billion won ($1.2 million) by setting up a company in his family’s name and taking advantage of the difference in tax rates between corporations and high-earning individuals. This implied that he reduced his income and increased his agency’s earnings to pay fewer taxes and lowered the company’s taxes by importing vehicles as corporate expenses by using credit cards. While no details on the actor were disclosed, many suspected Lee Min-ho and Ha Jung-woo as the culprits. Min-ho’s agency denied the rumors, saying they always paid taxes according to the law.  [7]Today

Facts/Trivia

  • When Lee Min-ho had finished shooting for ‘Secret Campus,’ his agency decided to give him a stage name as they thought that his real name was too ordinary. After a discussion with his agency, they decided on his name as ‘Lee Min’ after eliminating ‘ho’ from his real name; there were other competitors too but Lee Min sounded cool. The inspiration behind the stage name was actor Jung Woo-sung’s character named ‘Min’ in the film ‘Beat’ (1997). For two years, he worked under the stage name Lee Min. After his 2006 car accident, he did not work for a long time and appeared finally in Mackerel Run. However, when he looked up his stage name on the internet, he couldn’t find himself; he only found ‘overseas immigration’ (the latter word in Korean has the same pronunciation as ‘Lee Min’). He then decided to go back to his real name. [12]Asia Gyeong-je
