Laxmi Singh was born on Thursday, 2 May 1974 (age 48 Years; as of 2022) in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh. Her zodiac sign is Taurus. She did her schooling at Loreto Convent Intermediate College, Lucknow. A bright student, Laxmi secured the second rank in Uttar Pradesh in the class tenth board examination. She pursued a B. Laxmi Singh is the wife of Rajeshwar Singh, an MLA from the Sarojini Nagar assembly seat of Lucknow. Rajeshwar was also an IPS officer, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party after taking voluntary retirement (VRS) from the service. Rajeshwar was retired as Joint Director, Enforcement Directorate, New Delhi. Together they have a daughter, Rajlaxmi Singh.

Laxmi Singh’s father-in-law, Ran Bahadur Singh, was a UP police official who rose to an IPS officer within a span of 12 years. Ran Bahadur Singh retired as the DIG of Lucknow. Singh’s brother-in-law Rameshwar Singh is an IRS officer and is serving as the Commissioner of Income Tax (as of 2022).

Post her IPS training, she served in various cities of Uttar Pradesh including Banaras, Chitrakoot, Gonda, Farrukhabad, Baghpat, and Bulandshahar, holding the rank of SP/SSP. A firebrand IPS officer, Laxmi has been actively involved in probes related to crimes against women. Laxmi led the Unnao case, where the police arrested a 21-year-old boy and his teenage associate for allegedly poisoning three Dalit girls. Known to be a hard taskmaster, Laxmi took tremendous action against the mafia and organized crime in her area of operation. She has also carried out the encounters of many prized dacoits and dreaded criminals. She has also done commendable work in the field of women’s safety. She also helped solve as many as 4,500 pending cases within a span of three weeks. She has played an important role in the redressal of public grievances and problems of police personnel. She was also posted as DIG in the Special Task Force for some time.

In 2014, Laxmi was posted as the Deputy Inspector General of Police of 6 BN PAC Meerut and she ensured to keep a strict check on the criminal gangs. She helped in the arrests of some of the most notorious dacoits and their aides by conducting multiple raids in crime-prone areas. Later, she was also posted as DG, ADG, and DIG in different localities.

Impressed by her work, the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath promoted her to the rank of Inspector General of Police in Lucknow in 2019. As the IG of Lucknow, Laxmi headed a team of several experienced cops that cracked severe criminal cases and helped the police retain the public trust.

Laxmi was later posted as the Principal of Meerut’s Police Training School for some time. During her term, she worked hard to bring about a change in its functioning and modified PTS into a Center of Excellence. Under her leadership, PTS Meerut was declared the number-one police training institute in India by the Union Home Ministry. The institution also received a reward of Rs 2 lakh from the ministry. Seeing her honesty towards work, Yogi Adityanath soon made her the nodal officer of Mission Shakti, to which she gave new dimensions.

In 2020, the Uttar Pradesh government appointed her to head the investigation to confirm the role of police personnel in the Kanpur encounter of the dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey in which 8 police personnel including DSP Devendra Mishra were killed.

On 28 November 2022, she was appointed as the police commissioner of Gautam Buddh Nagar (Noida), becoming the first woman police commissioner in Uttar Pradesh. She replaced Alok Singh, who was transferred as the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) at the DGP office in Lucknow. The commissionerate system was introduced in Noida in 2020. Apparently, there was no woman SSP in Gautam Budh Nagar even in the old Senior Superintendent of Police system.

- While Laxmi was training at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy in Hyderabad, she was declared the best probationer by the officials.
- While Laxmi was posted as the Inspector General of Police in the Lucknow range in 2022, her husband Rajeshwar Singh contested the 2022 Legislative Assembly elections from the Sarojini Nagar constituency. Fearing her influence over voters in the area, the Samajwadi Party State President Naresh Uttam Patel wrote a letter to the Election Commission demanding her removal from the post. In the letter, Naresh said that Laxmi should be removed from the post of IG of Lucknow range and posted somewhere else as her husband was a candidate from the Sarojini Nagar seat, and she could influence the voters. However, his request was dismissed by the Election commission.
