Kuldeep Yadav plays domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh. He made his debut for Uttar Pradesh in the 2016-17 season of the Ranji Trophy. In the 2016 Duleep Trophy, he took 17 wickets in three matches.

On 25 March 2017, he made his Test debut against Australia at the Dharamshala Cricket Stadium, where he took four wickets in the first innings, making him only the third such bowler in Test cricket to take four wickets on debut. Earlier, he was selected in the Indian squad to play against the West Indies; however, he did not play any matches. On 23 June 2017, he made his ODI debut against the West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval; however, he could not deliver even a single ball as the first match ended without a result due to rain; he took three wickets in the second match of the series and became the joint highest wicket-taker of the tournament. IPL
Although he was signed by the Mumbai Indians for the 2012 Indian Premier League, he didn’t play in any game. In 2014, he was signed by the Kolkata Knight Riders, and he again couldn’t make it into the playing XI. In the 2016 IPL, he took 6 wickets in three games for the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the 2017 IPL, he took 12 wickets in 12 games for the KKR.
After a poor performance in the 2020 IPL in which he picked just 1 wicket in four games, he was dropped from KKRβs playing XI. In the 2022 IPL, he was picked up by the Delhi Capitals, and he took 21 wickets in 14 games. He was retained by the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition of the tournament.

- He plays with the jersey number 23 for the Indian national cricket team and IPL. His jersey number was 18 for India Under-19.
- When Kuldeep joined the cricket academy of his childhood coach Kapil Pandey in Kanpur, he wanted to become a fast bowler like Zaheer Khan and Wasim Akram; however, his coach suggested he become a chinaman, a rare variety of spin bowling. In an interview, Kapil Pandey talked about this and said,
