Dhanyadha JP was born in 2007 (age 17 years; as of 2023) in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. In 2023, she was pursuing class 12 with the commerce stream at Aksharam International School in Coimbatore. In 2020, she moved to Delhi to take formal training for cycling.

Her father, Dhanyadha Suresh Kumar, is a businessman. Her mother, Priyamvada, is an inspector in the Tamil Nadu Police. She has a younger sister.

Career

Dhanyadha took up cycling at the age of 12 as a fitness exercise, but gradually, she started developing an interest in it and decided to take it up to the competitive level. Initially, she started by participating in the local races. In 2019, she was selected by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) in the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS), aiming at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, USA.

In November 2020, she was selected under a Union government project, the National Centre of Excellence (NCoE) camp, run by the CFI and SAI. She participated in the 73rd National Track Cycling Championship 2021, organised by Rajasthan Road Riders and CFI, where she won a gold medal in the ‘Individual Pursuit Event’ and a gold in the ‘Team Sprint Event,’ in the sub-junior category. In December 2022, she participated in the 51st Junior National Track Cycling Championship, where she represented Tamil Nadu. In the championship, she won a bronze medal in the Individual Time Trial Event by covering a distance of 500 meters in 40.48 seconds and won a silver medal in the Individual Pursuit Event by covering a distance of 2 kilometres in just 2 minutes 42 seconds. In the same event, she created a new national record in the Team Spirit Event in which she covered a distance of 1500 meters in 1 minute 19 seconds.

In January 2023, she took part in the 27th National Road Championship, held in Nashik, Maharashtra, where she won a silver medal in the 15 Km Individual Time Trial and a Bronze medal in the 20 Km Team Time Trial in the sub-junior category. In March of the same year, she participated in the Khelo India Women’s Track Cycling League, held at the LNCPE Velodrome, Kerala. In the league, she won three gold medals in the 2000m individual pursuit, 4km scratch race, and keirin race in the under-16 category respectively.

In June 2023, she took part in the Asian Track Cycling Championship in the 2 km category, where she won a silver medal, and set a national record with a finish time of 2 minutes 28 seconds by surpassing the previous record of 2 minutes 31 seconds. [2]The Times of India In the same championship, she came close to winning two additional medals in the 7.5-km scratch race and the 4 km team pursuit; however, she missed out on the medals by just 1.2 microseconds.

In August 2023, she participated in the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Initially, she used to participate both in sprint and endurance categories, but later, her coach advised her to pursue cycling in the endurance category.
  • In an interview, she revealed that she spends six hours a day on her training.
  • In an interview, she talked about her diet and mentioned that she takes protein thrice a day. She said,

    Our diet is well-balanced, with a focus on getting protein three times a day.”

  • She has also been trained by Maxwell Trevor, who is a former international and 11-time national champion cyclist.
