Career

He passed the UPSC examination in 1990 and underwent training in the 44 RR batch at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA), Hyderabad as a 1990-batch Haryana cadre officer.

On 16 September 1991, he was appointed as an Indian Police Services (IPS) Officer. He was subsequently appointed as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) in Gurugram, and later in Hisar. He later served as Additional Superintendent of Police in different cities including Kurukshetra, Sirsa, and Hisar. On 6 December 1994, he completed his training, and in 1995, he was appointed as District Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Bhiwani. He later served as DSP- Highway Patrol and Road Safety of Karnal. From 2001 to 2002, he served in UN Peacekeeping Mission in Kosovo. From 2002 to 2008, he served as Superintendent of Police (SP), Deputy Inspector General (DIG), and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the anti-corruption and economic offences divisions of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). On 1 January 2003, he was promoted to Junior Administrative Grade (JAG). On 2 April 2007, he was promoted to Deputy Inspector General (DIG) level, and on 14 December 2009, he was promoted to Inspector General (IG) grade. He later served as Inspector General of Police (IGP) of Hisar and Rewari and Police Commissioner of Faridabad.

On 1 January 2015, he was promoted to the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) level. In April 2016, he was serving as CID Chief; however, on 13 April 2016, he was appointed as ADGP Crime due to the Jat Quota protests. He has served as Director of Haryana Power Generation Corporation Limited, Haryana Roadways Engineering Corporation, Gurgaon, and Saur Urja Nigam Haryana Limited.

On 20 April 2021, he was promoted to the Director General of Police (DGP). On 29 April 2021, he was appointed as Director General of Prisons (DG-Prisons) of Haryana, with the additional charge of principal secretary (transport). On 2 September 2021, he was appointed as Director General (DG) of the State Vigilance Bureau (Anti Corruption Bureau). In February 2023, Shatrujeet Singh Kapoor was empanelled for DG/DG Eq level posts at the Centre. On 16 August 2023, he 16 August 2023, he was appointed as Director of General of Police (DGP), Haryana for a minimum tenure of 2 years. His date of superannuation (retirement) is 31 October 2026.
