On 3 June 2002, she got married to the Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik, but their wedding remained a secret until Malik got married to the Indian tennis player Sania Mirza in 2010. Initially, Shoaib denied his marriage to Ayesha. However, later, he shared that Ayesha had committed fraud with him. In an interview, he shared that in 2001, while he was in Sharjah to play a cricket match for the Pakistani cricket team, Ayesha called her and introduced her as a fan of Shoaib. They exchanged their phone numbers and regularly started talking to each other. He said that Ayesha sent him photographs of her. Shoaib showed those photos to his parents as well.

He then asked Ayesha to meet his parents, but she kept on resisting. Malik said that she said they would meet at their wedding only. According to some reports, Ayesha once met him with one of her cousins and introduced her cousin as Ayesha. In an interview, Shoaib shared that when he met Ayesha with her parents, he was in shock as the real Ayesha was completely different from her photos, and she had sent some other girls’ photos claiming them as her photos. According to Ayesha’s father, Ayesha and Shoaib had a nikah over a phone call in June 2002. In an interview, Malik said,
I was just 20 then, and under a lot of pressure from Ayesha to get married as she was saying that her family was losing face in Hyderabad as word had got around that we were courting. I walked out of my house one morning in June 2002 and went to my friend’s shop and called from there. I got a nikahnama, signed it, thinking the girl I was marrying was the one in the photographs.”
In 2010, when Shoaib announced his marriage to Sania, Ayesha and her parents came out in the media and asked Shoaib to divorce his first wife Ayesha. On 7 April 2010, Malik divorced Ayesha and paid Rs 15 crore as an alimony.
