Career

After completing his formal education, Afzal started looking after his family business. However, unsatisfied with the work, he decided to call it quits and relocate to Mumbai to pursue a career in acting. In 1999, he appeared in the Bollywood film Tower House. The film was a flop and performed poorly at the box office. In 2001, he made his debut in the Hindi entertainment industry with the Ekta Kapoor-produced Hindi daily soap opera Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in which he essayed the role of a spoilt brat. In an interview, he talked about it and said,

I came to Mumbai and started looking for some good work and the I came to know there were auditions going on for some show called Kyuki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and my token number was 701, and they were looking for a character and I got the show and the character was spoilt brat the negative character and I was told that it was a 8-10 day character and I took that job.”

In the same year, Afzaal Khan landed a role in a Zee TV serial titled Kitne Kool Hai Hum, which was produced by Ekta Kapoor. As per Afzaal, he was offered a role in the serial by Ekta as she was impressed by his acting skills in Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. In 2003, Afzaal landed a role in a Hindi film titled Kaash… Hamara Dil Pagal Na Hota. In 2006, he bagged a role in the Hindi soap opera Sanskar. In 2012, Afzaal appeared in eleven episodes of Savdhaan India: Crime Alert.

In 2013, he appeared as Jagdish in the Hindi TV show C.I.D. Chhote Heroes. From 2007 to 2014, Afzaal essayed numerous characters in the Hindi TV show C.I.D. In 2015, he landed the role of a villainous character named Munna Mama in the Hindi TV show Piya Rangrezz.

In the same year, he appeared in Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani, a Zee TV Hindi soap opera.

In 2018, he bagged the role of Atharv Singh Rathore in the Hindi TV show Vish Ya Amrit: Sitara. In 2021, he acted in the Hindi soap opera Meet: Badlegi Duniya Ki Reet as Ram Ahlawat; he worked in the serial till 2023. On 2 May 2023, Afzaal Khan essayed the role of a character named Madan in the Colors TV Hindi soap opera Suhaagan. Afzaal, while talking about how he bagged the role in the serial, in an interview, said,

I got a call from the production house. So since I am always in the search of doing something different, I gave sent an audition clip to them and they liked it and after a few days I was selected.”

• During a media interaction, Afzaal Khan revealed that he had to take a long break from acting after some people stabbed him and tried to rob him. He talked about it and said,
  

  I met an accident when I was coming back from the shoot and some people tried to robbed me and they stabbed me and there was a down fall where I had to take a break for 5 to 6 months and suddenly you are at peak and you have a down fall and I had to struggle again and after break it took time to be back on peak and I met Ekta Kapoor again and she offered me another show.”
