First Class

Sohail made his first-class debut on 10 October 2004 for Rawalpindi against Peshawar at Peshawar. He also represented Rawalpindi in first-class matches in 2005, 2017, and 2018. In the year 2006-2007, he played for Punjab in the first class matches. During the same time, he also represented Attock Group in a few first-class matches. Sohail has also represented Khan Research Laboratories, Federal Areas, Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited, and Hampshire in first-class matches. He played his last first-class match on 2 December 2019, playing for Northern against Khyber at Karachi.

T20

Sohail Tanvir made his T20 debut on 25 April 2005 for Rawalpindi Rams against Quetta Bears at Lahore. In 2008, he represented South Australia in a few T20 matches. He has also played T20 matches for the domestic teams Sylhet Royals, Lions, Hampshire, St Lucia Zouks, Somerset, St Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Rawalpindi, Sylhet Superstars, Karachi Kings, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Comilla Victorians, Lahore Qalandars, Sylhet Sixers, Multan Sultans, Federally Administered Tribal Areas, Quetta Gladiators, Northern, Pakistan, and Kandurata Warriors. Sohail Taanvir made his List A debut for Rawalpindi Rams against Zebras on 8 March 2006 at Rawalpindi. He then represented Rawalpindi Rams in List A matches from 2005 to 2007. Thereafter, he played for Khan Research Laboratories till 2009. In 2012, he joined the team of Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited and played List A matches for them until 2015. He has represented many teams in List A matches including Hampshire, Rawalpindi, Baluchistan, Punjab, and Northern. One Day International (ODI)

Sohail Tanvir was named in the Pakistan One Day International squad for their series against South Africa in October 2007. He made his One Day International debut for Pakistan against South Africa at Lahore on 18 October 2007. In the same year, he was selected for Pakistan’s tour of India, where he played a few one-day international matches and claimed eight wickets.

In the 2008 Asia Cup, he played his first match for Pakistan against Hong Kong in Karachi, where he scored 59 runs off 55 balls, marking his maiden ODI 50. Although Pakistan’s top order struggled to score runs against Hong Kong, Sohail partnered with Fawad Alam for 100 runs, helping Pakistan to make a respectable score of 288 runs. He then represented Pakistan in a match against Sri Lanka, where he took his first five-wicket haul. He ended at 5/48 in 10 overs. He played his last one-day international match for Pakistan against New Zealand on 17 December 2014 at Abu Dhabi.

T20 International (T20I)

Sohail Tanvir was included in Pakistan’s squad for the inaugural World Twenty20 in 2007. He replaced Shoaib Akhtar in the tournament. Sohail made his T20 International debut for Pakistan against India on 14 September 2007 at Durban. In the tournament, he played six matches and took six wickets, with best bowling figures of 3 for 31 in four overs against Australia.

Sohail got the chance to bat only in the final match of the tournament, where he hit a six in the first ball. After participating in the 2009 ICC World Twenty20, Tanvir went on a year break because of injuries. He then played the 2013-14 World Cup for Pakistan. He played his last match for Pakistan against West Indies on 1 April 2017 at Port of Spain.

Test

Sohail Tanvir was named in the Pakistan National Squad in 2007 for their Test series against India. He replaced the injured Umar Gul in the series. Sohail made his test debut on 22 November 2007 for Pakistan against India at Feroz Shah Kotla Stadium, Delhi (now Arun Jaitley Cricket Stadium, Delhi). In his debut match, he claimed three wickets including the wickets of Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid. He played his last Test match on 30 November 2007 for Pakistan against India at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

Sohail made his Indian Premier League debut for Rajasthan Royal against Royal Challengers Bangalore at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on 26 April 2008. He played his last IPL match for Rajasthan Royals against Chennai Super Kings at Dr DY Patil Sports Academy on 1 June 2008.

Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)

In 2011, Sohail played for Sylhet Royals in the Bangladesh Premier League. He then represented Sylhet Superstars in the 2015-16 season of the Bangladesh Premier League. A year later, he played for Comilla Victorians in the league. He has also represented Sylhet Sixers in the Bangladesh Premier League.

Caribbean Premier League (CPL)
