Shankar Gadai has been part of various kabaddi tournaments on a district level and the districts that he has represented include Ahmednagar, Palghar, and Gondia. In 2022, Shankar took part and represented the Maharashtra team in the 36th National Games of India, which were held in the state of Gujarat. He was the captain of the team during the entire tournament and won the silver medal in the finals. Followed by the 70th Senior Men’s & Women’s Maharashtra State Kabaddi Championship in which he represented district Ahmednagar and also won the ‘Top Performer of the Tournament Award.’

Facts/Trivia

  • No one in Shankar’s family was well-educated and all belonged to the labour class. Shankar wanted to study more and also play Kabaddi. Even though he started playing kabaddi in childhood; however, after he completed his 7th standard, he started going to the Kabaddi Academy located in his village and that’s how he became professional. Eventually, he started funding his own studies and got admission into a college.

  • He used to work at the farms while learning kabaddi side by side. Shankar used to get free from the farm at 5 in the evening and then go for his practices. He used to earn Rs 300 a day while working as a labourer in the sugarcane fields.
