Sandhya Devanathan

Sandhya Devanathan is an Indian banker turned tech maven and business executive who was appointed as the Vice President of Meta India, the parent company of Facebook, on 17 November 2022. She will take charge of the role from 1 January 2023.

Sandhya Devanathan was born in 1976 (age 46 years; as of 2022) in Andhra Pradesh. After completing her schooling, Sandhya attended Andhra University in Visakhapatnam to pursue a B. Tech in Chemical Engineering (1994-1998). While studying at Andhra University, she actively participated in tech fests, elocution, and debate competitions.

Career

Sandhya Devanathan started her career with Citi, an American multinational investment bank and financial services corporation, as a Webmaster & Product Manager of Citibank online and e-business team in 2000. She worked in the position for around three years and in 2003 was promoted as Product Head of Personal Loans. In August 2005, she moved to the Philippines on assignment as part of the excel leadership program of the company and started working there as the Assistant Vice President of Portfolio Management & Customer Retention of credit cards. A year later, she was promoted to the position of Vice President of the offshore segment of customer franchise management and moved to the United States. In 2007, Sandhya was appointed as the Director of the International Consumer Lending Group at Citi bank. From July 2008 to December 2009, Devanathan worked as the Director of sales performance management at International Retail Bank and later resigned from the firm.

Citibank

In 2009, she moved to Singapore and joined Standard Chartered bank as the Global Head of cross-selling and pricing. In July 2012, she became the Managing Director and Head of the credit cards and unsecured loans department. In December 2014, she became the Managing Director of retail banking and payment products. Sandhya resigned from the company in 2015.

Standard Chartered Bank

In 2016 Devanathan joined The Facebook Company (now called Meta) and served the firm in various capacities. She joined the firm as the Group Director and moved to the position of Country Managing Director of Singapore and Business Head of Vietnam six months later. In 2020, Sandhya was appointed as the vice president of Asia Pacific Gaming at Meta. On 17 November 2022, Meta appointed her as the vice president and head of its India operations. She replaced Ajit Mohan, former India head at Meta, who resigned from the firm in November 2022. Sandhya is set to take charge of her role as Meta India’s Vice President on 1 January 2022.

Announcing her new role in the company, Meta chief business officer Marne Levine issued a statement which read,

I’m pleased to welcome Sandhya as our new leader for India. Sandhya has a proven track record of scaling businesses, building exceptional and inclusive teams, driving product innovation and building strong partnerships. We are thrilled to have her lead Meta’s continued growth in India.”

Devanathan has also served as a board member of several organisations including Pepper Financial Services Group, National Library Board (Singapore), Singapore Management University, Ministry of Information and Communications (Singapore), and Women’s Forum for the Economy and Society.
