Ranjith Balakrishnan was born on Saturday, 5 September 1964 (age 57 years; as of 2022) in Balussery, Kozhikode, Kerala. He did his graduation from the School of Drama and Fine Arts, Thrissur, in 1985.

Writer

In the late 1980s, Ranjith worked on the skits and television serials for the Doordarshan channel. Ranjith made his writing debut with the Indian Malayalam language film ‘Oru Maymasa Pulariyil’ (1987). He has written the story of the film ‘Orkkappurathu’ (1988). Some other films written by Ranjith include ‘Peruvannapurathe Visheshangal’ (1989), ‘Pradeshika Varthakal’ (1989), ‘Pookkalam Varavayi’ (1991). During this period, he worked with the Indian film director, Viji Thampi and released some other films like ‘Witness’ (1988), ‘Nagarangalil Chennu Raparkam’ (1989), ‘Kaalalpada’ (1990), ‘Neelagiri’ (1991), ‘Johnnie Walker’ (1992), ‘Devaasuram’ (1993), ‘Maya Mayooram’ (1993), ‘Rudraksham’ (1994), ‘Asuravamsam’ (1997), ‘Aaraam Thampuran’ (1997), ‘Kaikudanna Nilavu’ (1998), ‘Summer in Bethlehem’ (1998), ‘Ustaad’ (1999), ‘Narasimham’ (2000), ‘Valyettan’ (2000), ‘Nasrani’ (2007), ‘Penpattanam’ (2010).

After scripting various films, Ranjith made his directorial debut with the film ‘Raavanaprabhu’ in 2001.
