Controversy
Harassing Junior Women IPS Officer
In February 2021, he was a member of the security team for the then Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami of the AIADMK party. On 21 February 2021, while he was posted as Special DGP and going to Ulundurpet District in his official car, he harassed the junior woman IPS Officer who was travelling alongside him in his car. The victim filed an FIR against him at CBCID-North under Villupuram district for offences under Sections 354A(2), 341, 506(1) of IPC and Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman Act, 1998. Later, a committee was set up to investigate the charges which found that charges were true. The victim also included the name of the Superintendent of Police, Chengalpet, D Kannan, for stopping her from her filing the complaint. After two years of hearings, on 16 June 2023, Villupuram Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) M Pushparani convicted Rajesh Das guilty of sexual harassment and convicted him under the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Woman (Amendment) Act, 2002 as well. He was given 2 fines of Rs 10,000 each and two concurrent sentences of three years. Later, Rajesh was given bail to file an appeal. [2]Live Law [3]The Indian Express [4]Outlook
