Relationships

He named his prosthetic invention after his girlfriend’s name Inali Wahane. During an interview, while talking about his ladylove, he said,

There was a time after I dropped out of college and my FAB course when even my own parents lost faith in me. There were a lot of struggles and obstacles. She supported me all through it.”

Career

After dropping out of college, he did a job in Pune for Rs. 5000 only. While he was pursuing his course from Pune, he got to know about Nicolas Huchet, a Bionico hand-maker who lost his hand in an accident and made himself a bionic arm. Later, he met a seven-year-old girl Shreya who was born without arms, but he found out that prosthetic limbs would cost more than 24 lakhs. He then decided to work something in this field and make prosthetic limbs available at low prices.

Initially, it was difficult for him to organize funds, but his ideas impressed the Technical Secretary of Jaipur Foot Foundation (which works to support disabled people), who soon helped him in designing seven prosthetic hands. In 2016, he started ‘Innovating New Abilities’ (INALI) to make prosthetic limbs at affordable prices. He worked as a research fellow at various organisations including FAB Lab and Enable Foundation. In 2016, a retired professor from the USA contacted him and provided him ten machines to make prosthetics. He named his invention Inali which is one of the most affordable bionic arms for the disabled people. By 2019, he designed more than 700 arms and distributed them for free among the needy people and more than 300 arms have been sold across the country. In an interview, he talked about his foundation, he said,

It’s our mission to travel to the remotest of villages across India and organise free electronic-arms distribution camps every month. We are sustaining Inali via selling prosthetic arms at a nominal cost to those who can afford to buy. But there are so many people out there without the funds or access. We, at Inali, want to help them build their lives.”
