He completed his bachelor’s from the University of Sussex in England and went to INSEAD Business School in France for attending the International Executive Programme.

He started his career by working at Tata International, an entity of Tata offering products and services abroad. In 1999, he became the managing director of Tata International’s retail vertical Trent, founded by his mother.  At that time, Trent had just acquired Littlewoods International (department store) and was renamed Westside. Noel worked for the growth of Westside and soon turned it into a profitable venture. Under his leadership, the market value of Trent went up to Rs. 40,000 Crore in 2021 from 3,600 Crore in 2014. At that time this company handled the overseas business of a US $ 70 Billion Tata conglomerate. He is also praised for his work for Voltas which has doubled in market valuation from Rs. 18,000 to more than Rs. 40,000. Controversies

Speculators believed that he will become the successor of Tata Group after Ratan Tata. But in 2011, Noel’s brother in law, Cyrus Mistry was announced to be Ratan Tata’s successor. However, in 2016, Cyrus was removed from the position and Ratan Tata took hold of the chairmanship. He graced this position for four months and finally stepped down in February 2017.
