Career

Mangesh Kashyap started serving in the Dehli Police on 1 May 1995 as an officer of the 1995 Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service (DANIPS) cadre. In 2009, he was inducted into the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre. He has served as Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Delhi Police. On 4 July 2016, he was appointed as the Chief Vigilance Officer of South Delhi Municipal Corporation. Before that, he was the Deputy Commissioner of the Economic Defence Wing (EOW), Delhi Police. Later, he became the Deputy Commissioner of Police Security TRG, New Delhi. In 2023, while Kashyap was working as DCP-RP Bhawan. he transferred as Additional CP- Security, Delhi Police on promotion.

Facts/Trivia

  • While sharing his fondest memory as a Civil Servant, in an interview, he said,

    There are many such fond memories. However, the best memory was from my initial days when I had managed to crack a very sensational case. Three people were murdered along with the school principal. The principal was killed in front of the entire class. There was a lot of hue and cry. I managed to catch the culprit. It was a rewarding experience.”

  • He is a skilled pianist and enjoys playing Hindi songs on the piano in his leisure time.
  • In 2013, the Supreme Court expressed disapproval of Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mangesh Kashyap’s affidavit, where he asserted that providing security to individuals in higher positions enables them to take “bold and impartial decisions.” The court said,

    How our judgement beckoned bold due to security. That’s the level of understanding of the IPS officer.”

  • In 2016, there was a tug-of-war between the AAP dispensation and BJP-controlled MCDs after AAP refused to accept the order of the Union Home Ministry appointing Mangesh Kashyap (DANIPS 1995 batch) as the CVO of the SDMC. Kashyap was the BJP-controlled MCD’s choice for the post. Arvind Kejriwal government had proposed the appointment of Bhajani Ram Meena, a 1997-batch IPS officer. However, the South Delhi Municipal Cooperation rejected the Delhi Government’s order to appoint B R Meena as the Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) of the civic body. After getting CVC clearance, Kashyap took charge as CVO on 4 July 2016.
