Kushal Malla

Kushal Malla is a Nepalese cricketer, who plays as a Batting all-rounder for the Nepal National Cricket Team. He came into the limelight after he scored a fifty in his debut one-day international against the USA, becoming the youngest cricketer in the world to do so. He is often regarded as the Shahid Afridi of Nepal.

Kushal Malla was born on Friday, 5 March 2004 (age 19 years; as of 2023) in Butwal, Rupandehi, Nepal. His zodiac sign is Pisces. He attended the New Horizon School in Butwal, Rupandehi, since class 3. After completing his schooling, Kushal enrolled himself at Kshitij International College on a full scholarship to pursue a BBS. Once, while playing an inter-school cricket match, Malla smashed 15 sixes in an inning, drawing the attention of his cricket coach Shakti Gaucham. Kushal was just 12 years old at that time. After identifying his talent, Gaucham focused on nourishing his talent.

Career

Domestic

Kushal Malla has played for the Tribhuwan Army Club, a departmental army sporting club in Nepal, at the domestic level. In 2018, during Nepal’s premier 50-over domestic competition, Kushal Malla scored 111 runs from 63 balls, hitting 13 sixes. His performance in the match caught the attention of the national selectors, who introduced him to Nepal’s national cricket team.

Kushal Malla has played a few Under-19 cricket tournaments for Nepal.

T20 International

Kushal was named in the Nepal national squad for the 2019–20 Singapore Tri-Nation Series and the 2019–20 Oman Pentangular Series in September 2019. On 27 September 2019, he played his debut T20 International match for Nepal against Zimbabwe in Singapore during the Singapore Tri-Nation Series. In September 2020, Kushal, along with seventeen other cricketers, was awarded a central contract by the Cricket Association of Nepal.

One Day International (ODI)

Kushal Malla was named in Nepal’s One Day International (ODI) squad for Nepal’s Tri-Nation Series in January 2020. He made his one-day international debut on 8 February 2020, representing Nepal against the U.S.A. at Kirtipur, Nepal. In the match, he scored 50 runs from 51 balls, hitting three sixes and four fours. In April 2023, Kushal made his first century in one day international during a match against Oman.

He has also played for various franchise cricket teams including Rupandehi Challengers, Bhairahawa Gladiators, Mahendranagar United, Team Abu Dhabi, Gwadar Sharks, Biratnagar Super Kings, and Pokhara Avengers.
