Karnail Rana is an Indian singer from Himachal Pradesh. He is known for his Himachali folk songs. His first cassette, ‘Chambe Patne Do Bediyan,’ came in the year 1989.

Karnail Rana was born on Tuesday, 30 April 1963 (age 59 years; as of 2022) [1]Divya Himachal in the village Rakwal Lad, Upper Ghallaur, Tehsil Jawalamukhi, District Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. He did his schooling at Government High School, Ghallaur, and completed his graduation at Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla in 1986. [2]Amar Ujala Karnail Rana passed the vocal examination of folk music in B-Grade from All India Radio Station, Shimla. He has also done a Bachelor of Journalism & Mass Communication from Kota, Rajasthan. His father was also interested in singing that’s why he also became interested in folk music. He is now settled in Subhash Nagar, Upper Sakoh, Dharamshala.

Karnail Rana is born and brought up in the Himachali family background basically in Kangra, H.P.

Parents & Siblings

Karnail Rana’s father’s name is late Swaran Singh Rana (father), and his mother’s name is Indira Devi. His father also liked Indian folk music. Rana once stated that he enjoyed singing songs and playing musical instruments whenever he had time to attend any family function.

Career

His debut album, ‘Chambe Patne Do Bediyan’ got appreciation from various people in 1994. After his debut album, he sang for over 150 albums and became a star singer. He was appointed as an artist in the Theater Unit in the Himachal Pradesh Information and Public Relations Department in December 1988.

Karnail Rana’s idol was Late Pratap Chand Sharma who was Kangra’s renowned folk singer. He recorded different folk songs like Ek Joda Soute Da, Kajo Nain Milaye, Fauji Munda Aai Gaya Holiday, Do Naraan, Dade Di Bediye, Bindu Neelu Do Sakhiyan, Horna Patna and O Naukra Amb Pake O Ghar Aa, Nindre Pare-Pare Chali Jayan, O Ghari Bhar Ram Japana, Dhudu Nachaya Jata O Khalari Ho and Hun O Katainin Jo Nasda Dhudua, etc. The songs related to Goddesses, Shiva hymns, Baba Balak Nath, and traditional folk songs. Karnail Rana also conducted the state as the representative artist in various public forums of Delhi, Mumbai,Chandigarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Goa, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Punjab, and Jammu and Kashmir. Karnail Rana has been awarded by various social, political, government, and non-government organizations. He retired on 30 April 2021 from the post of Assistant Public Relations Officer from the Information and Public Relations Department of Himachal Pradesh.

Political Views

Karnail Rana is a strong follower of the Bharatiya Janata Party. He was also appointed as the state organizer of the cultural cell of Bharatiya Janata Party, Himachal Pradesh [3]Facebook. He has performed in front of various governors, Chief ministers, Union Ministers, Renowned Personalities, administrative, and Army Officers of the state.
