Controversies

  • In 2017, the then Jharkhand Chief Minister Raghubar Das had invited Soren to the “Jharkhand Global Investor Summit (GIS).” However, Soren rejected the invitation, and he said-

The summit is a Maha Chintan Shivir of land grabbers and it is being organised to loot the land of Adivasis, Moolvasis and the farmers of the state.”

  • On 25 August 2022, in a recommendation to the Governor of Jharkhand, the Election Commission (EC) suggested that the governor should disqualify Hemant Soren as MLA under the Representation of the People Act, 1951. This recommendation was based on a stone mining allocation case in which Soren was found guilty of misusing his position to allot a stone mining lease to himself. [3]The Indian Express
  • He was summoned by the Enforcement Directorate on 2 November 2022 to be questioned by the agency in connection with an illegal mining case in the state. [4]The Hindu
  • In early 2024, Hemant Soren faced a controversy due to an investigation led by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The ED, looking into a Rs 600 crore land fraud case, found a lot of cash at his Delhi home on 29 January. Soren, who had previously evaded ED summons, later went missing which led to a search for him. During this time, extra security measures were put in place in Ranchi. Soren, who was then found in Jharkhand, later denied the accusations, saying they were politically motivated, and planned to challenge them in court.
