Since 2008, he has been working as a photographer. His work has been featured in several publications, including PEOPLE, Esquire, Men’s Health, and Fast Company. His documentary projects include Used Car Salesmen, Yard Sales, Sign Jugglers, and I ♥ Runyon Canyon. Gijs has co-created the blog “van der THIS!,” with his comedian wife Michelle Buteau, where he fused photography with comedy turning the content into an eye-catching and entertaining miniseries. He also works as a photo editor for the popular style, culture, and design blog www.kaufmann-mercantile.com. In 2012, he appeared on The Eric Andre Show. In January 2012, Gijs van der Most and Michelle established a furniture store in Bushwick, Brooklyn called Van Der Most Modern.
