Charlie Dean, also known as Charlotte Ellen Dean [1]NDTV, was born on Friday, 22 December 2000 (age 22 years; as of 2022) in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, England. Her zodiac sign is Capricorn. Charlie Dean started her career in cricket at the age of 16, playing for Hampshire against Staffordshire. In the same year, she scored 54 runs against Essex Women’s Cricket team, marking her first half-century. Subsequently, she captained Hampshire Under-15s to register a victory in the Royal London County Cup. In 2017, she took five wickets on her debut for the Portsmouth Grammar School boys’ first XI. In 2018, Charlie helped her team ‘Hampshire’ to win Division 1 in the Country Championship by scoring 163 runs, including her List A high score of 73 runs against Kent Women cricket team. In 2019, during the Country Championship, Charlie scored 142 runs at an average of 20.28 and took 11 wickets at an average of 15.54. Dean scored 95 runs and took 7 wickets at an average of 11.57 in the 2021 Women’s Twenty20 Cup.

Dean represented Southern Vipers in the Kia Super League in 2017. She played various matches for Southern Vipers between 2017 and 2019. In 2020, she represented Southern Vipers in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy. Charlie scored 180 runs at an average of 45.00 and took 9 wickets at an average of 29.88, helping the team win the trophy.

Generally batting at no. 4, Charlie was a regular feature in England Academy squads. In 2022, Charlie captained the London Spirit team in ‘The Hundred’ as Heather Knight was injured. She played all six matches for the team, scoring 38 runs.

International

Charlie Dean was fast-tracked into England’s Women’s Twenty20 International (WT20I) squad (for their series against New Zealand) at the age of 20 after her spectacular performances for Southern Vipers and London Spirit. However, she was excluded from the team during the first match as she was identified as a possible COVID-19 contact. She took 10 wickets in the series. Dean made her One Day International debut for England on 16 September 2021; the match was against New Zealand. By taking 10 wickets in the five-match series, Charlie appeared as the joint-leading wicket-taker of the series.

In December 2021, she was selected in England’s women’s cricket team for their tour to Australia to contest the Women’s Ashes. Dean marked her T20 International (WT20I) debut on 22 January 2022 against Australia in Adelaide. The match was washed out due to rain after 4.1 overs. On 27 January 2022, Dean made her Test match debut for England against Australia in the one-off Women’s Ashes Test. She took two wickets in the match and scored 12 runs; her first test match dismissal was Beth Mooney of Australia.

Subsequently, she played two One Day Internationals against Australia but failed to take a wicket. Next, she became a part of the England Women’s national cricket team that participated in the 2022 Women’s Cricket World Cup in New Zealand. She played six matches in the tournament and took 11 wickets.

Next, she was named in England’s squad for their One Day International series against South Africa. Dean was the leading wicket-taker in the series, taking 8 wickets at an average of 18.62. Thereafter, she played for England in the three matches ODI series against India. Dean scored 108 runs in the series and took 3 wickets. In the third match of the series at Lord’s, London, Charlie made her highest score of 47 runs before she was run out at the non-striker’s end by Deepti Sharma.
