His father, Captain Baldev Singh (deceased), was an army officer and ex-MLA from Khair, Aligarh. His mother, Krishna Kumari Devi, is the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir in Orissa. He has two brothers named Abhimanyu Raj Singh and Aditya Narain Singh; both are film producers. His brother Abhimanyu Raj Singh is often confused with the Indian actor Abhimanyu Singh.

On 10 May 1999, he got married to Avantika Mankotia.

After completing his graduation, he started teaching music at Vasant Valley School, Delhi. He then worked as a history teacher at The Doon School in Dehradun. ^[3]DNA India

In 1996, Singh made his Bollywood debut with the film ‘Tere Mere Sapne’ as Rahul Mehta.

In the same year, he appeared in another Hindi film ‘Maachis’ with which he gained immense popularity.

He then acted in various Hindi films like ‘Betaabi’ (1997), ‘Dil Kya Kare’ (1999), ‘Daag: The Fire’ (1999), ‘Josh’ (2000), ‘Kya Kehna’ (2000), and ‘Aamdani Atthanni Kharcha Rupaiya’ (2001).

In 2002, he appeared in the Hindi film ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’ after which he took a break of four years from the films, and in 2006, he appeared in the Hindi film ‘Sarhad Paar.’

He then acted in a few other Hindi films like ‘Zilla Ghaziabad’ (2013), ‘Aa Gaya Hero’ (2017), and ‘Cuttputlli’ (2022).

• In 2009, while he was skiing in Goa, he lost his grip on the ski. The speed of the boat became so high that his right hand was pulled off his shoulder joint. After the accident, he was immediately rushed to a hospital and was on bed rest for a few months. He did not have good work for around eight years.
