That event marked as the beginning of her journey as a stand-up comedian. In an interview, she said,
The Hive, thankfully, was an intimate room back then. Everyone knew everyone and they were all very welcoming. So, it was like goofing up in front of your own friends instead of total strangers. And that’s what kept me coming back every Monday for the open mics.”
Her debut comedy video on YouTube, ‘UP is the Texas of India’ got immense popularity. She has appeared in various stand-up comedy shows across India. She owns a digital marketing agency.
Controversy
She landed into a huge controversy after she passed a joke on Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in one of her stand-up comedy videos in 2019. Her joke was,
This Shivaji statue is an amazing masterstroke by Prime Minister Modi Ji. It will have solar cells that will power all of Maharashtra. It will also have GPS tracker and it will shoot laser rays out of its eyes to shoot Pakistani terrorists in the Arabian sea.”
She was badly trolled for joking about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The then Maharashtra’s home minister, Anil Deshmukh said,
I have instructed CP [Commissioner of Police] Mumbai and IG [Inspector General] Cyber to take legal action expeditiously. I urge everyone to maintain calm and law will take its course.”
Later, she uploaded an apology video on her Twitter account.
In 2020, the matter heated up again when Shubham Mishra from Gujarat posted a video on his Instagram account on 11 July 2020, in which he abused Agrima and harassed her for making jokes about Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. After a series of complaints, the Vadodara City Police detained him and tweeted,
Vadodara City Police took suo moto action in respect of an abusive, threatening video which was uploaded and shared on Social media by Shubham Mishra. We have detained him and initiated legal process for registration of FIR against him under relevant section of IPC and IT act.”
A few Indian celebrities like Swara Bhaskar and Kunal Kamra came out in her support and disgusted such harassment threats. [2]India Today
