Aditya Yadav is a renowned Indian Deaflympics badminton player. She gained recognition in 2022 when she won a gold medal in the under-19 team championship at the Deaf Olympic tournaments held in Brazil. Aditya, along with her partner Gerlin, made history by defeating the doubles players from Japan with a score of 21-15 points during the championships.

Aditya Yadav was born in 2010 (age 13 Years; as of 2023) in Village Bichhiya, district Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. She was pursuing her middle school education in 2023. In an interview with a media house, her father, Digvijay, shared that he was filled with joy when Aditya was born. However, after two years, he discovered that Aditya could not speak, which left them disappointed. He then went to Delhi for her treatment, and the doctors suggested a cochlear implant for Aditya, but it cost Rs. 15 lakhs. Aditya’s family members managed to arrange the money, but when Digvijay noticed some other children who had the implant surgery and faced more difficulties afterwards, he became worried and decided not to proceed with the treatment. Her family members also remembered the challenges Aditya faced from an early age as she cannot speak. However, she did not let this stop her and began playing badminton at the young age of 5. She began participating in national badminton tournaments at the age of 9. At the age of 12, she started playing in international events.

Aditya’s father, Digvijay Yadav, is a skilled badminton player who works as a coach for Uttar Pradesh Railways.

Her grandfather’s name is Shivchand Yadav, and her grandmother’s name is Bhagwati Devi. She has a brother and a sister named Aviral and Pallavi, respectively.

Career

At the age of ten, Aditya Yadav achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first female player from India to take part in the Deaf World Championship held in Chinese Taipei in 2019. Additionally, she won a gold medal in the Yonex Sunrise Hamish Infrastructure UP State Championship during the same year.

In 2019, Aditya Yadav participated in the Uttar Pradesh Games of the Deaf Badminton tournament and won a Gold medal in the singles championship.

In 2022, Aditya Yadav competed in the Deaflympics held in Brazil. She won a Gold medal in the team championship by defeating Chinese Taipei in the semi-finals and Japan in the final.

Later, Aditya Yadav won several medals including a Gold medal in Under 21 Girls Doubles, a Silver medal in Singles, and a Bronze medal in Mixed Doubles during the Asia Pacific Deaf Youth Badminton Championship in 2022. She then won a Gold medal in Women’s Doubles and a Bronze medal in Women’s Singles as well as single and double Silver medals in the team event of the 3rd Junior World Deaf Championships in July 2023.

• She achieved victory in the Yonex Sunrise Hamish Infrastructure UP State Championship in 2019.

• Aditya Yadav emerged as the winner of the PNB Met Life Junior Badminton Championship in 2022. As a result, she was nominated for the prestigious Rani Laxmi Bai Award.

• Aditya’s father mentioned in a media talk that before 2019, Aditya did not have many chances to practice, so she used to practice at home by hitting the shuttlecock against the wall. Even though she had limited opportunities, she made sure to stay fit. Aditya received initial guidance and coaching from Digvijay Nath. In a media interview, her father shared that Aditya Yadav practised diligently for three hours every day. She spent her mornings at the Railway Stadium and her evenings at the Levins Academy.

• During a tournament in Delhi, India’s renowned badminton player, PV Sindhu, gave Aditya some advice and suggested that her father should further support her talent.

• Aditya Yadav is an enthusiastic badminton player. According to her parents, even on Sundays, she does not take a break. She is committed to staying fit and active during that time.

• Digvijay always had a wish for his daughter, Aditya Yadav, to achieve something so remarkable that no one could criticize or doubt her, despite her challenges since birth. In 2022, during a media conversation, Digvijay expressed that he wanted his daughter to win an Olympics medal in the general category as well. He said,
  

  I made sure that my daughter achieved something big in her life so that no one would ever dare to laugh at my daughter’s deficiency. We came to know about her by-birth no-hearing problem when she was just two-and-a-half and from that day, I wanted to make her a special child.”

• In June 2022, Aditya Yadav received an award of Rs. 5 lakhs from Akhilesh Yadav.

• Once, during a media interview, Aditya Yadav’s mother mentioned that she focused on physical exercise through games, and her father played the role of a coach by guiding her, scolding her when necessary, and teaching her discipline. Aditya refrained from indulging in chaat, phulki, ice cream, and sweets.

• In June 2022, Clean Slate Foundation (CS) announced that it will sponsor Aditya’s training till 2024. The sponsorship included providing her with gear, racquets, shuttle sets, and a kit as well as arranging specialized mentoring support and meeting her nutritional needs.
