Sumrit Shahi was born on Friday, 12 February 1993 (age 30 years; as of 2023) in Chandigarh, India. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. He completed his 10th grade at St. John’s High School, Chandigarh, and then went to SelaQui International School, Dehradun, where he was soon expelled following which he came back to Chandigarh and completed his schooling at Bhavan Vidyalaya, Panchkula. Later, he pursued his graduation in Liberal Arts, majoring in Media Studies with Film Appreciation and Business Management, at Symbiosis International University, Pune.

Career

Novels 

At 17, Sumrit wrote his first novel, “Just Friends,” in 2010 and his debut novel sold more than 1 Lakh copies in the first few months. His second novel, “A Lot Like Love… A Li ‘l Like Chocolate,” was released in October 2011, and his second book became famous for its dark humour. In May 2015, his third novel, “Never Kiss Your Best Friend,” was published under Rupa Publications. His novels are translated and published in Hindi as well.

Television

Sumrit has written stories for more than 1300 episodes in 10 television shows including Ek Veer Ki Ardaas…Veera (2012-2015) co-written with Durjoy Dutta, Sadda Haq – My Life, My Choice (2013-2016), Million Dollar Girl – From Banaras to Paris (2014-2015), and Boyz (2015).

Newspapers

Sumrit worked as a feature writer for The Daily Post, Chandigarh, in the summer of 2012, and later, in the same year, he freelanced with India Today as a Business Profile writer.

Web Series

His third novel, Never Kiss Your Best Friend, was adapted into a web series with the same name, and Sumrit, along with, Durjoy Dutta wrote the screenplay for the show starring Nakuul Mehta and Anya Singh. He has written the scripts for many Web series including Black Coffee (2017), Duck Sey Dude (2018), Medically Yours (2019), and Dev DD (2021).

In 2015, he was listed on the list of the top 30 young artists under 30 in the country by Hindustan Times.
