Shelly Kishore is an Indian film and television actress who is known for her role as Shalini in the Malayalam soap opera Kumkumapoovu (2011–2014) on Asianet and Padma in the Malayalam soap opera Thaniye (2006) on Amrita TV. She is also known for starring in the Tamil film Thanga Meenkal (2013) and the Malayalam film Minnal Murali (2021).
Her family hails from Chirayinkeezhu, Thiruvananthapuram. She grew up in Muscat, Oman watching black and white Malayalam films. Shelly was active in the arts and cultural festivals when she was studying in school. Initially, she dreamt of becoming a director but soon realised that it wasn’t quite easy getting into direction. Therefore, she pursued a career in acting, even though she lacked experience in facing the camera and performing on the stage. After completing Class 12, she pursued a diploma in mass communication at Oklahoma City University in Singapore. She also earned a diploma in sociology from Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU). Later, she pursued a PG Diploma in E-governance. The Hindu. She set foot in the entertainment industry after her friend sent her a casting call advertisement published in the Malayala Manorama newspaper by the makers of the film Kanal Kannadi. She applied for it and got selected. After marriage, she started living in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. After appearing in Sthreepadham (2017-2020), Shelly completed her master’s degree in Communication and Journalism at Sacred Heart College and began working in an ad agency based in Bengaluru as a copywriter. Malayala Manorama Then, she worked as a content writer at an IT firm called Moon Hive in Bengaluru.

Parents & Siblings
Her father, J Nabu Kumar, is a civil engineer in Dubai. Her mother, Sheela, is a homemaker. Her elder brother is married and works in America. She has a sister, Shibily, who works as a teacher.
Husband & Children
Her husband, Kishore C Menon, works as a production controller in the Malayalam TV industry. Together, they have a son named Yuvan Kishore.
In 2000, she secured the position of second runner-up in the Miss Flower Show contest held at Kanakakunnu, Trivandrum.
Her first film Kanal Kannadi was never released. However, the cameraman of that film Anbumani introduced her to director Purushotthaman, who gave her a break in his Malayalam serial Chitrashalabham on Amrita TV.
In 2006, she made her television debut with the show Koottu Kudumbam telecast on Kairali TV. In 2007, she came into the limelight with Amrita TV’s telefilm Thaniye in which she played the role of Padma.
She played the double role of Nandana & Sitara in the serial Chitrashalabham (2006) on Amrita TV. In 2007, she appeared in the TV shows Thingalum Tharangalum (as Raziya) on Amrita TV and Aa Amma on Kairali TV. Shelly became a household name with the role of Shalini Rudran in the soap opera Kumkumapoovu (2011–2014), which was telecast Asianet.
She was selected for her role in the serial Kumkumapoovu upon her husband, Kishore C Menon’s request. Kishore was the Production Controller of Kumkumapoovu. At that time, she was doing her PG in E-Governance. Following the show, she took a break from television to take care of her son, Yuvan Kishore. After a fairly long break, she played the main protagonist, Balasudha, in the soap opera Sthreepadham (2017–2020) on Mazhavil Manorama.
From 2020 to 2021, she played Jeena in Surya TV’s Ente Maathavu.
In 2009, she appeared in the Malayalam anthology film Kerala Cafe (in ‘Island Express’ directed by Shankar Ramakrishnan) as a schoolgirl named Kaveri.
Other Malayalam films in which she appeared include Chattakaari (2012), Akam (2013), Sakhavu (2017), and Eeda (2018). While she was doing her master’s degree at Sacred Heart College, she secured the role of Usha in the blockbuster film superhero film Minnal Murali (2021).
In 2013, she made her Tamil debut when she played the role of Vadivu in the drama film Thanga Meenkal. The narrative of the film is set against the closure of government schools across Tamil Nadu and its impact on a middle-class family comprising a father, a mother (Vadivu) and their daughter. Immensely appreciated, Shelly’s role as Vadivu earned her a nomination in the category of Best Actress in a Supporting Role at the 3rd South Indian International Movie Awards.
In 2022, she played the role of Janaki in the horror thriller film Naane Varuvean.
In 2010, she appeared in the thriller film The Waiting Room.
In 2016, she appeared in the YouTube short film Chirakinte Maravil. In 2023, she starred in the Telugu web series Shaitan in which she played the role of a naive and gullible mother Savithri. The series streamed on Disney+ Hotstar.
After completing her master’s degree in Communication and Journalism, she began working in an ad agency based in Bengaluru as a copywriter. Then, she worked as a content writer at an IT firm called Moon Hive in Bengaluru.
