Saranya Sasi was a Malayalam film and television actress. On 9 August 2021, she passed away due to complications after recovering from COVID-19. In 2012, she was detected with a brain tumour, and she battled with it for almost ten years.

Husband & Children

She got engaged to the South Indian production associate Binu Xavier on 21 April 2014, and on 26 October 2014, the couple got married at Sree Narayana Seva Sabha Temple in Kochi. Later, they had a grand reception at Rotary Club Panambilly Nagar in Kochi, Kerala. Reportedly, when Sasi was detected with a brain tumour, her husband left her, and later, there were rumours that Binu and Sasi got divorced, and Binu got married to some other girl. Career

She debuted as an actor in the Malayalam TV serial ‘Sooryodayam’ aired on Doordarshan in 2006. She appeared in the Malayalam TV serials such as ‘Harichandanam’ (2010), ‘Avakashikal’ (2011), and ‘Kootukari’ (2014). In 2006, she debuted in the Malayalam film ‘Chacko Randaaman.’ Some of her other Malayalam films are ‘Chotta Mumbai’ (2007), ‘Thalappavu’ (2008), and ‘Annamariya Kalippilanu’ (2016).

 

Death

In 2012, she was detected with a brain tumour and underwent almost 11 surgeries. She battled for almost a decade with cancer which resulted in the deterioration of her health. Later, she was tested positive for COVID-19 in May 2021, and after she got recovered from it, she was diagnosed with pneumonia and other respiratory issues. She could not survive the illness, and on 9 August 2021, she passed away at a local hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. [4]The Indian Express The chief minister of Kerala Pinarayi Vijayan shared his condolence on her demise through a Facebook post. He wrote,

Saranya’s battle with cancer without letting go of her self-confidence has generated inspiration and optimism for our society. When Kerala suffered monsoon-related damages, Saranya showed her social commitment and her care for other people by taking out money meant for her treatment and donating it to the CM relief fund. I join in the grief of her friends and family.”

  • Due to her illness, she was facing huge financial losses, and at that time, her best friend Seema Nair helped her and supported her mentally and financially.
