Career

In an interview, Sarabjot said that when he was 13, he wanted to become a footballer but one day, he saw some kids aiming at paper targets with pistols during the summer camp. This scene left a major make on his mind and he decided to pursue shooting. At that time, he told his father he wanted to be a shooter. After that, his journey to become a shooter started. He started taking professional training under the guidance of coach Abhishek Rana after winning the silver medal in his first district-level tournament.

In December 2022, in the team event at MP Shooting Academy in Bhopal, Sarabjot won double gold at the 65th National Shooting Championships.

In March 2023, Sarabjot, who won the junior world championship in 2021 for both team and mixed team events, earned a gold medal by beating Ruslan Lunev from Azerbaijan with a score of 16-0 in the World Cup’s first final match. During the competition, 21-year-old Sarabjot performed exceptionally well and finished as the top scorer after the qualification round with 585 points. After the ranking round, Sarabjot secured the top spot with 253.2 points, followed closely by Ruslan with 251.9 points. Both of them entered the gold-medal round with confidence. Meanwhile, Varun scored 250.3 points, earning him the bronze medal.

At the ISSF World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, in August 2023, the team of Indian men consisting of Sarabjot Singh, Shiva Narwal, and Arjun Singh Cheema got the aggregate score of 1734 in finals, making them secure the third position at the ISSF World Championships. Among the trio, Sarabjot Singh secured 578 points.

  • According to Sarabjot, his father was not in favour of him pursuing a shooting career as it was expensive. But with several requests from Sarabjot, his father agreed to help him somehow.
  • Abhishek Rana is the coach of Sarabjot Singh and he has been training Sarabjot since 2016. They met when Sarabjot won a silver medal for his first district-level tournament.
  • During an event in Cario, Sarabjot’s mental and physical health was not perfectly fine. He had to work regularly, get in touch with a psychologist, and meditate a lot to improve his concentration.
  • To maintain his good health, he is often spotted going to the gym.
