Sachin Sanjay Dhas [1]ICC was born on Thursday, 3 February 2005 (age 19 years, as of 2024), and he hails from Beed, Maharashtra. His zodiac sign is Aquarius. Sachin grew up playing cricket with her father, Sanjay Dhas, who had decided that his son would become a cricketer before he was even born. Sanjay named him after the legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar so that while growing up he could relate with him. He pursued his HSC in the science stream and achieved an 88 per cent score. He secured a 76 per cent score in his SSC exams. As of 2024, he is in his first year of college, pursuing a science degree. [3]Mid-Day

Family

His father, Sanjay Dhas, works with the Maharashtra health department. His mother, Surekha Dhas, is an Assistant Police Inspector (API) in Maharashtra Police. He has a sister, Pratiksha Dhas, who is preparing for UPSC in Pune.

Career

In the beginning, Sachin Dhas used to play for Beed’s district team. He secured his first century with a remarkable unbeaten 156 runs, playing for Beed’s U-14 team during the Invitation Cup at Shinde College in Pune. He helped Beed chase down the target while the side was struggling at 38-6. The impressive performance led to his selection in the Maharashtra U-14. Thereafter, he played in Maharashtra’s domestic team for all age group teams—U-14, U-16, and U-19. During the 2023/24 season, Sachin Dhas showcased outstanding performances across various tournaments. He was part of the winning squad of Maharashtra for the Vinoo Mankad Trophy. He played 9 matches in the tournament and scored 440 runs, which included three fifties and a century.

In the Challenger Trophy, Dhas played 4 matches and scored 244 runs with an impressive average of 61. In the Asia Cup, he batted in 2 innings and scored 74 runs, which included 5 fours and 3 sixes. He was a part of Kolhapur Tuskers’ squad for the 2023 Maharashtra Premier League. He played for India U19 B in the 2023 Quadrangular Men’s Under-19 One-Day Series. In a match against England during the series, he scored a century, 107 not out, but his team lost by three wickets. During the Quadrangular series, he played 7 matches and made 294 runs,  with 22 fours and 15 sixes.

 

He was named in India’s squad for the 2024 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. On 2 February 2024, Dhas (116) and Uday Saharan (100) put on a 215-run partnership for the fourth wicket as India beat Nepal by 132 runs. He hit 11 boundaries and 3 sixes. He was recognised as the Player of the Match.

He caught the spotlight during the semi-final match against South Africa at Willowmoore Park in Benoni on 6 February 2024. Together, Sachin and skipper Uday Saharan established a record for the highest fifth-wicket partnership with a match-turning 172-run partnership in U19 cricket history. When Sachin walked onto the field, India was chasing 245 runs and had already lost 4 wickets for 32 runs. While Sachin scored 96 runs off 95 balls, Uday stuck around to score 81 in 124 balls, leading India to a two-wicket victory. He played a few extraordinary pull shots, which included short-arm jabs.

Facts/Trivia

  • Both his parents were athletic in their time. They were state-level Kabaddi players. Besides that, his father Sanjay played cricket till the University level.
  • Sanjay Dhas and Sheikh Azhar used to face difficulty in training Sachin because of the lack of turf wickets in Beed. Around 2011, Dhas and Azhar set up six turf wickets borrowing money. However, it was difficult for them to maintain the turf wickets due to drought in the region. They used to buy a water tanker service every second or third day for its maintenance. Azhar recalled the struggle during an interview and said,

    Water crisis is acute in Beed. Every second or third day, I used to call up a water tanker (2000 litre). We used to collect money and thus those wickets have survived till now. Around 50 kids from different age groups used to train under me, the numbers have doubled since Sachin was picked for India U-19.

  • His father runs a self-titled YouTube channel on which he uploads cricket videos of Sachin.

  • He is a right-hand batter and right-arm offbreak bowler.
  • Sachin was always good against pace and spin. To check whether Sachin would be able to get on top of the bounce, his coach, Sheikh Azhar, started putting a three-foot-long and four-foot-wide iron plate at the good-length area during practice. Azhar and Dhas used to do throw-downs. The ball used to mount on Dhas at the beginning. He struggled for some time but perfected his game as time progressed.
  • During an under-19 invitational tournament in Pune where Sachin was playing, his six-hitting skill impressed the organizers so much that they felt compelled to inspect the size of his bat to make sure he was not cheating.
  • Ian Bishop, who used to be a fast bowler for the West Indies, was impressed by Sachin Dhas’s short-arm jabs against Riley Norton during the 2024 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup. During his commentary, Bishop said that while Shubman Gill was the best at this move Sachin was also doing an amazing job.
  • His jersey number for India’s national under-19 cricket team is #10, the iconic jersey number which was popularized by Sachin Tendulkar.
