Controversy
Narain accused of sexual harassment
When Narain was the chief secretary, there were reports that twenty women were seen going to his residence in Port Blair. He was accused of gang-raping a 21-year-old girl after the girl complained about him. In the complaint, she said that while she was looking for a job, she met Narain in a hotel room. She revealed that Narain raped her and tortured her for two weeks and threatened her not to tell anyone about the matter. After the investigation took place, it was confirmed that he raped the 21-year-old girl and cheated on 20 other girls by promising them government jobs. However, Narain denied the allegations and said that it was a conspiracy against him. He was removed from all his duties by the Union Home Ministry. He was granted interim bail by the Kolkata High Court till 14 November 2022 which was later suspended and he was arrested. A statement by the home ministry said,
As the report indicated the possibility of grave misconduct and misuse of official position on the part of Jitendra Narain, the Home Minister directed to take immediate strict action against the officer concerned as per law. Accordingly, Jitendra Narain has been placed under suspension with immediate effect and disciplinary proceedings have been ordered against him.” [2]The Hindu
